I’m not one anymore to tinker about with phones (prefer them to work with minimal effort, and also I want to know that any issues I see, if any are caused just by normal usage). But some people like that option.

WPCentral reports that a new version of root tools ads to the full blown registry editor, file system browser and certificate injection capabilities the following new features that they think would ‘re-energise the homebrew community’.

  • True and unfettered root access
  • Better performance
  • Increased device support
  • A new policy editor
  • A new software development kit

More information over at:

Today I am proud to announce the immediate availability of WP7 Root Tools 0.9 alpha and WP7 Root Tools SDK 0.1!

WP7 Root Tools 0.9 brings true Root Access to devices with stock ROM’s, but it also works on devices with custom ROM’s and Full Unlock. Your device needs to be Interop Unlocked to use WP7 Root Tools!

WPcentral says that the most exciting news is the new SDK (v0.1) that allows for a new set of APIs that will tap into some root-level features.

They mention that they were able to complete a full backup of the phone, including marketplace apps. This will come in a form of an app in the future apparently (though still much work to do).

Cheers Prashant for the tip!
