Forbes: Strong Lumia Debut for AT&T and Nokia Lumia 900

When we looked at the post about Amazon’s best seller’s list, I mentioned I was reluctant to post it as I was not sure whether it was as significant as it appeared to be. Sure, yes, of course, Amazon is huge and for the whole of Amazon US it means a lot. But on a holiday weekend?

We received many links, one of which I didn’t understand at the time- the best sellers in the phones and accessories list.

Forbes has a neat article that explains the significance of the Lumia appearing there.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/terokuittinen/2012/04/09/no-denying-strong-lumia-debut-at-att/

1) Unprecedented having a Windows Phone take the top two spots for best sellers (cell phones with plans). It’s not simply a free pass for new phones. Where is the new Titan II in this list? No where.

2) Cell phone and accessories chart – dominated by items that sell in mass volume. Original Droid hitting the top 30 was considered a hit. Best selling non Nokia model is #245, Moto RAZR MAXX – Verizon’s top phone. Nokia Lumia is at #64 and #115 (colour variants split) which forbes speculates would be around the #40 mark were they combined.

3) Amazon apparently has had a strong track record at reflecting US market trends

4) Amazon growing and growing to become a better mirror of US market trends with folks opting to buy online and from amazon than usual stores.

Lumia was not expected to beat RAZR MAXX even during launch days. We need this level of buzz and sales for the Lumia 900 to be maintained. Remember folks, this is a Nokia in the US. Nokia needs to get this phone more exposure so potential consumers can at least see it, try it, test it out to gauge whether it might be a good choice for them. It is first and foremost, a start to turning around, NOT marketshare, but perceptions about Nokia and Microsoft as viable, likeable brands.
