Lumiappaday #169: Need For Speed – Undercover demoed on the Nokia Lumia 800 XboxLive

| May 2, 2012 | 10 Replies

Need For Speed Undercover is the older NFS game but it’s the version I prefer playing. There’s also NFS Hot Pursuit. I like that the controls are extremely responsive and that the visuals on the display orientate themselves to always be horizontal in my view. i.e. If I tilt right, the game visuals turn left to compensate and your view of the game remains unchanged, allowing your eyes to concentrate solely on driving your car.

The game looks great and plays very well. I’ve only used the demo for this because I didn’t fancy shelling out £3.99 for this, especially as it’s much cheaper (around £2.29) on equivalent stores.

Due to the nature of the recording set up, it was very hard to record this accelerometer based game on camera. It is much easier to play when you hold the phone normally.

How do the two NFS game you mention compare to the one on the N9?

    • Jay Montano

NFS Shift is good but the controls are like Hot Pursuit. Tilting the phone only steers the car. In Undercover, the whole screen tilts too so it’s less disorientating when you’re driving because your surroundings remain steady and horizontal. Imagine playing a driving game or just driving and when you try to turn left your display screen also turns left :/

So that’s it really, the controls are slightly more intuitive?
If there anything else hugely improved or that differentiates them?

        TY.

I liked Hot Pursuit more than Undercover.
The gameplay, sound and graphics of HP are better than those of Undercover.
Horizon tilt is present in HP too. But it dosen’t tilt as much as Undercover’s.

    Brutal! Still no Shift?

Maybe I’m completely missing something as far as popularity of various titles within the NFS franchise since I’m a fan of GT style racing sims, but I get the impression that those games are among the most popular (see Forza and Gran Turismo on consoles). Why would they spend time converting a less interesting title to WP when they could do Shift? Or even better, Shift 2?

unless we are talking Anna different nfs shift here guys. Shift on my N8 rotates the display when am steering.. So thats not new. Infact the only game dat maybe doesn’t rotate is asphalt

    • James

Yeah but what about NFS Shift on N9?
