International Edition (GPRS, EDGE, WCDMA, HSPA, HSPA+) or NAM Edition (GPRS, EDGE, WCDMA, HSPA, LTE)?
DEf. international edition- No point in LTE over on this side of the world just yet; and form what I understand they can’t make those NAM editions fast enough to cover the demand
It’s true that Europe is pretty far behind in terms of LTE take up. North America leads with 61% of the LTE-subscribers located over there, Asia follows with 36% (Korea, Japan dominate). That leaves a marginal 3% for the rest of the World and that’s actually Europe.
However, would we see different pace if we had good devices? These seem to have driven the uptake in NAM and APAC.
Off-topic: In Finland I seem to notice an increase in 4G advertising from operators. Truth be told I haven’t been paying much attention to what technology they are referring to. Anyone know the situation?
Elisa and DNA in here have – in my opinion – taken a somewhat questionable merketing approach saying their DC-HSPA (hope you know a bit of what this is) is 4G. And partially, they are right (ITU-T has ratifed the use of term). But honestly, it’s not LTE.
Having said that all players are rolling LTE out, you should have pretty good information on coverage areas in operator web pages. They do have press announcements when new areas is being covered with LTE.
DNA and Elisa are reported to have few thousand LTE subscriptions today.
Lasse: Thank you for the info. And yes I’m aware of the controversy of what is called 4G, I just hadn’t checked if it is also being done in Finland… Apparently it is.
According to Wikipedia Sonera was the first the LTE in late 2010 in Finland, but very limited reach – now it is growing. Elisa says that by end of 2012 their LTE should cover half the population.
So, maybe some nice LTE Apollo Lumias, then.
Sonera in this case should be looked at as TeliaSonera. They kind of failed with 3G (late entry) and promised years back that with LTE, they’ll be first. And, they kind of were -at least in terms of marketing announcement. In Sweden, Telia is more aggressive with LTE.
TeliaSonera is the name of the company but it’s marketed as Telia in Sweden and Sonera in Finland. It’s a finnish/swedish company.
Yep, true – as a Finn, I know the details, mayb I should have explained a bit more what I mean.
My point was that it was the Group who made the announcement to be first with LTE. In Sweden, they walked the talk, in Finland the launch was mostly about marketing.

I’d wager/guess this is the international edition, not LTE.
No Cyan yet apparently. Considering the comments coming out from that North American convention this week, Cyan is still selling out in the U.S. I guess Nokia is diverting all their supplies of cyan coloring agents to the U.S. shores.
Additionally, according to the source article, these already run the Tango update, including wifi hotspot functionality.
Maybe Nokia did increase its clockspeed a bit
you may as well try and get your hands on an LTE version I doubt that Europe will continue to lag behind in adopting LTE… heck even Canada has fair LTE coverage already
I wonder if the LTE frequencies are the same?
No, they are not the same. LTE has >30 official frequency bands, defined by 3GPP.
Remember the New iPad mess? Claims you have 4G all over. That mess was due to the different frequencies supported in various parts of the World.
it seems that it comes with both nokia purity and play 360
that’s a pretty good deal
Makes you wonder if Nokia is making any money at all with these “free” additions. First in USA, now in UK. Good luck selling them without loss.
The carriers in the u.s. subsidized iPhones $400 for the phones and $600 for the 2 year contract according to reports. We don’t know if Nokia is taking a loss or not as we know the carriers want that 3rd player.
Does Tango have the Bluetooth file sharing? If so, that didn’t take long.
I love this u.s. 900 but wish radio mix and reading were onboard, like they are in the international 900?
Not likely. Current expectation is that Bluetooth file sharing comes first as an app from Nokia (sometime soonish?) and perhaps integrated into Windows Phone 8 in the fall.
I’d love to swap my white N9 for lumia 900 if there’s anyone interested
Just this guy blog.. not sure how true the contents..
