Video: 22 minute Nokia N9 Disassembly & Assembly – Case Replacement!

| May 22, 2012 | 39 Replies

Wahey! Got a short break after today’s exam and my next appointment and noticed something you guys will enjoy.

Some of our readers have been requesting a detailed disassembly of the Nokia N9. Many were hoping it would be conducted by  by  as we’ve seen plenty of his very helpful tear downs and rebuilds.

Check it out – 22 minute disassembly, every part carefully explained. This is for a case replacement.

Thanks, this is what this phone with a dead OS needs- a disassembly guide! just disassemble it and throw it in a dustbin.

    • Nonikhanna says:

Dead OS??? I am probably gonna get one in the next few months. :D

      • dommau says:

and you won’t regret it :)

      • James says:

        Ignore the guy….
He’s been trolling in every N9 related article.
His soft fanboy underbelly has been irritated.
Doesn’t know how to appreciate more than one device.
        It’s beyond his mental capacity…

        • mee-gone says:

Dont be a N9 apologist, face the truth, its a dead platform and no amount of whining and fanboyism will bring it back.

          • gabriel9 says:

For the dead platform it is a great device.
Nice OS, unique UI with award winning design. Also there is nice Community on maemo.org. :)

          • James says:

And yet you can’t outline an intelligent rationale as-to-why the OS & assoc. sw is so poor.
A REAL tech enthusiast has a good insight into most platforms, you clearly don’t.
Just fanboy-like mantras, hence why you are rightfully labelled as such.

        • mee-gone says:

And stop the personal insults, even i can go that route.

          • James says:

Maybe you should stick to that route, that’d best suite your mindset.
You seem to have very little knowledge about the OS/platform in Qn, yet you feel you can make the assertions you do.
That’s classic emotive thinking (fanboyism) at it’s best.
It’s just a conclusion one can draw from your own posts, not an insult.

          • Aleve Sicofante says:

As a matter of fact, that’s the only route you’d be able to go.

    • ur dad says:

      o u fuking ass hole son of bitch…. wch fucking os u r using…..???

  2. Edmund says:

watching this video makes me realise it’s so easy to oooh and ahhh at external design but the engineering is even more complicated than i first thought.. Really tightly made product!

  3. stromtroller says:

which one is FM TX missing antenna?

    • James says:

      What? Which one of what?
None of the Lumias or the N9 support FM-TX.
The 710/800 don’t have the hw at all, the 900 I forget OTTOMH.
I “think” it has the hw, but like the N9 it doesn’t have a connection to the antenna or a sep. ant.
If you want FM-TX for the N9 you have to do a physical hw mod.
And then you have convince javispedro to add support for it to his FM-RX daemon.
That won’t even be an option for the 900…

      • stromtroller says:

Read alot from news, maybe kontorri is the source..said that N9 have FM RX/TX chip , but FM TX isnt doable due to no antenna..

        • James says:

Yes, that’s right, it is doable, but not easily.
It requires a physical mod 1st & then support hacked into javispedro’s daemon.
So no guarantees, but it won’t surprise if someone achieves all that eventually.
I’m going to have a go at the physical mod soon, if I have time.

        • Zastralin says:

Headphons can act as antena, at last it does it for FM radio in N9, and I suppose also an extrernal antena for transmitter can be connected this way via 3.5 jack. However haven’t tried – you experiment on your own risk eventualy.

          • James says:

No the FMTX hw doesn’t have a connection to the antenna which the FMRX uses.
Nor does it have it’s own dedicated one, it’s been confirmed.
“However”, it may be possible to take the N9 apart & do a physical mod etc.

            • Natahsa says:

So I should buy N8 then? It’s a Symbian^3 though, which is quite a gnarly piece of OS for developers. Nokia should allow flashing of N8 to Meego.

              • James says:

                What?
That’s possibly the dumbest comment I’ve ever read.
But seeing as you want the simple/dumb answer:

No don’t get the N8, the N9′s far better “all up”.
It’s even slightly better than the 808PV all up.
Unless photography’s very important to you & you don’t care about it’s bulkiness.
In which case the 808PV “may” be better for you.

What’s with the random necro Qn anyway?
                And why so weirdly framed?

                • Natahsa says:

Interesting that after qualifying my question as “dumb” your brain satarted working on functionalities I might be after. And then asking me all manners of irrelevant follow ups. So sad. This aint a chat room.

James this ain’t your blog nor your disassembly video (the most valuable thing on this page). Anyone can embed a video on a blog. You’re a lowlife troll and given that you’ve never programmed one thing in your life, you will not understand the fundamental difference between Meego and Symbian.

I realise now that you are just a moron who likes to act techy.

                  • James says:

“James this ain’t your blog nor your disassembly video”

No but I understand the concept of nettiquette, apparently you don’t.

“Anyone can embed a video on a blog.”

                    What?

“You’re a lowlife troll and given that you’ve never programmed one thing in your life, you will not understand the fundamental difference between Meego and Symbian. I realise now that you are just a moron who likes to act techy.”

I know bucket loads about them, especially harmattan.
Thinking twice about whether I want to share anything I know about them though.
                    I wonder why….

                    Natahsa,

In a story that’s well over 2mth old you necro-post:
                    “So should I buy a a N8 then”
Tell me, how can I answer that???
I dont know what features you need or are most important to you.
                    Then you follow-up with:
“Nokia should allow flashing of meego to N8.”
This isn’t technically feasible, let alone practical for any handset vendor.

So yes, I gave you the dumb/simple answer.
Dumb & simple in the sense that I cannot possibly give you a well-informed answer. Why? Because I dont know what things you want most in a smart-phone.
This is also why I asked: “Why such a weirdly framed series of Qns?”.
                    I hope that’s clearer now…..

                    • Natahsa says:

Am sorry u failed to read your own thread about FM-TX feature. My question was bang inline with that. N9 has Meego but no FM-TX. N8 is Symbian but has FM-TX (and is 300 MHz slower and with less pixels). You could have stuck to FM-TX topic (as per the thread discussion) and made an interesting case on whether it is that important feature.

Instead your dumb brain took another direction which makes you look like a dumbass now (esp given that you can’t delete replies). Bye now. Am not interested in brash morons. Get an education. Finish high-school if you haven’t already.

                    • James says:

No, the thread was about FMTX in the N9.
                      It wasn’t a: “should I buy the N8 or N9?” thread.
You’re the one that made the leap to that.

Having owned both devices I gave you what I think is the best answer in simplest terms.
                      What more do you want???
                      If it’s a detailed break-down of N9/Maemo6x Vs N8/S^3.
Well, I’m sure as hell not giving that to you now.
If you pop over to talk.maemo.org folks there who own both may be more willing.

                  • James says:

And hell I gave you an answer didn’t I…
I could’ve just ignored you entirely, which is what most would’ve done.

                    • Natahsa says:

                      >> No, the thread was about FMTX in
                      >> the N9. It wasn’t a: “should I
                      >> buy the N8 or N9?” thread.

And that’s why you are a moron. N8 had FMTX so people logically assumed Nokia would keep this feature in N9.

For people who have neither N8 or N9, the question of going for N8 because of FMTX is quite logical. I’m sorry your brain is too tiny to make that kind of leap. Also the N8 is so much cheaper now.

It’s quite funny how you’re still trying to prove that you got it right even though you couldn’t spot I posted under FMTX feature. This is typical of morons. They open their mouth before they think.

                    • James says:

No, that is why you are being belligerent.
Again, the thread had nothing to do with N8 Vs N9.
Despite that, I DID make some effort to address your query, even though I was within my right ignore it entirely.
Yet you continue to be insulting….
The Qn of picking N8 or N9 doesn’t just come down to FMTX, there’s a shit load of factors to consider.

  4. kingsley says:

n9 has its fm transmitter embeded on the bluetooth radio chip

    • Zastralin says:

Nokia N9 has FM radio, F transmiter and is the only one penta-band Nokia mobile worth to use.
      Beware of the windows.

  5. Zastralin says:

I think EVERYBODY before try to repeat this on video MUST read Nokia service manual for N9 where is better description of how to do it. And then see this clip.

Among the other things you will find there that screws should not used twice, so new are needed… And also how to use tools and which tools…. Nokia has got really good stuff….

Anyway this clip proves N9 has replaceable battery.

    • Zastralin says:

And I think he use metal tool in moments when he oght to use plastic one to prevent accidental shortcuts and similar accidental damages…
