There’s a lot to take in but Rafe says to expect an even more detailed review once units are available.
…it’s hard not to get excited. It really is an amazing imaging device – there’s a lot of hype around, but the truth is that it appears to be almost entirely justified.
Nokia has made some impressive imaging advances over the years with devices like the Nokia N90, N93, N82, N86 and N8, but the 808 stands out even from this select company. Yes, the Nokia 808 PureView sets a new benchmark for cameraphones. But the real eye opener is that it looks like Nokia has made what is arguably also the best compact camera on the planet.
You don’t have to take the word from the chief Symbian fan , Rafe alone(though Rafe is extremely fair in his opinions). We reported also that even Gizmodo were saying Nokia 808 PureView makes compacts and even bridge cameras obsolete, with Engadget saying Nokia 808 PureView sets a new benchmark for mobile imaging:

This is impressive

A worthy preview of the 808 by Rafe.. Good read..
I have already preordererd the 808 but I’wouldn’t say it’s the best compact camera, that’s fanboytalk. Even with the great sensor and lens you cannot replace bigger lenses and optical zoom.
That it is the best cameraphone needn’t be said anymore, that’s more than obvious and to be expected.
You got it! It’s the best cameraphone there is. Plan and simple. It just can’t beat compacts in every aspect.
I would recommend the 808 to the most people looking for a best possible quality on cameraphones.
the thing is the difference between the 808 and most compacts is too small to matter.. its either this, or u have to move to a dslr
to be honest, I’m not impressed. Check those landscape images (PureView 5MP), there is significant blur on all of them. I guess situation will only get worse in less than ideal conditions (low light/night). Full res images are quite good on the other side.
Cheers,
Miki
