Video & Gallery: Stormtrooper Lumia 900 Unboxing & Special Surprise

| June 5, 2012 | 38 Replies

Yes the day has finally come and I’m super excited! Today a nice package from “Espoo Finland” arrived at the front desk (package was in exchange for Jay being sent to Finland :P); regardless my all time favorite device for a while now is finally mine. Along with a nice little Surprise the Nokia people added in the box, so watch the video and share my excitement:

I’m getting curious on how these Purity headsets compares to my HD 449

  • chfyfx

    this is awsome, congrats!

  • arts

Should have waited for the 900, looks so nice!

    • DesR85

Agreed, but I don’t regret getting the Lumia 800. But I do admit that the 900 is nice.

Had tried playing around with the dummy unit displayed on the Nokia Stores on Saturday and so far, it is slightly bigger, but still able to fit in one hand. What I didn’t like is the raised bezel around the edges of the screen. Should give the demo unit a try to get a better impression once the 900 made its way to Malaysia.

  • ms.nokia

    sexy stormtrooper,
    congratulations

  • prashant

that means u have to return it.

  • kues

The charger connector in the Lumia box is the UK version (also used in some former British Empire countries). The extra connector (Europlug) can be used in Finland, most European countries and a lot of other countries around the world. :-)

  • Mark

    congrats Ali

do you get to keep it?

  • fgjv

crap nokia mobiles, i’ve got a n9 but lags like hell.
they say it’s fast but after a month of use it’s a CRAP NOKIA.
    MYnext phone will be iPhone

    • aboodesta

      errr… go here

      http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=83940

      download fasterN9.

and seriously, chill. No need for drama -_-

      • Sefriol

        It’s not drama, it’s trolling.

    • Andrew_b

It used to be that trolls took pride in their art. This is just plain lazy. Perhaps a noob trying out for the first time?

    • Shane

This story’s about a phone that uses a completely different OS.
      Are you really that clueless?

As for your “issue”, if anything after 1-mth it gets faster, thanks to TrackerDB etc.
I’d say you’ve been using something like N9Tweak…
And being clueless have caused more problems than you’ve solved.

    • Mohajee

Perhaps you should update your firmware. Many things can be told about N9 but it does not lag. Prhaps you have fake N9? As this is popular model some unknown chinese deliver fake N9s. Looks similar, but only similar. Take true N9 – you will love it.

package was in exchange for Jay being sent to Finland… :D now that’s really funny…. Poor Jay :P :D ;)

    • kunwar

what if he comes back with a PureView :P

      • Michael Faro-Tusino

        +∞

        • kunwar

          :p

      • Rat Kutti

then he’d be a very lucky fellow… And i’d be jealous seeing these two guys having both the 808 and 900!

  • Bassman

That is one nice looking phone. I had the good fortune to have a play on a Stormtrooper 900 and I have to say that I was very impressed not only with the design and build but also the fluidity of the OS.

How do you find it in comparison to your 800?

  • lordstar

That looks AWESOOOOME. haha the white version has a special charm to it.

  • izuan

    Gosh, super jealous!
For what you saved with the phone AND both Purity headsets, you can buy yourself a trip to Espoo!
I tried the on ear headset at the Nokia store the other day and out was just awesome! Hope to get that for my birthday haha.
And Can’t wait to try out the Lumia 900 When it hits Malaysian shores.
Have fun Ali. And keep Up The Great work you guys are putting in with the site. I Enjoy reading it very much.

  • doc76

Hi Aliqudsi, could you please check if the reception of the Lumia 900 is better than the Lumia 800? I find the reception of the Lumia 800 not very good.

    • Michael Faro-Tusino

Same here, adn also compare it with N9.

And to be a pain, call quality as well. I was planning on doing it, but not lucky enough to have a 900 :p

    • Aliqudsi

Thanks all :) this phone really is something special, anyways do far the reception does seem much better; the800 had pitiful reception this is back to normal standards.

      • kunwar

which OS version is on your 900 mango or tango?

  • alenbart

This Lumia looks absolutely stunning. Now can’t make up my mind if I should get this or wait for the 808. Should be an interesting comparison!

  • benjimola

am waiting for nokia to send my purity headset… I cant wait… I love my white L900 so badly… am glad I didn’t get the cyan the white is better looking.

  • andres1905

    Wow…!!! That’s great…! Congratulations Aliqudsi…!

I really hope I can get one towards the end of the year, but probably I’ll have to import it from the US… In my country (Ecuador) there have been no announcements regarding Nokia + WP. The operators are busy promoting some Asha models…

  • Gasbond

Congratulations, but, I have one question; which one is better, this one or the white N9, cuz I have one amazingly stunning white N9, and it is totally amazing, so please give me an answer:)

    • Shane

Pretty silly Qn really, depends on the full range of your needs/wants.
Better in what way, what ways are important to you etc…

    • Aliqudsi

If your talking about looks then the only difference is the screen resolution/size as the body is the same-
personally the 4.3 inches fills the hand nicely especially when typing
also the fact that it’s NON pentile makes a world of a difference; compared to the N9 and the Lumia 800 it’s screen is amazing, plus the clear back technology which makes it even cooler.

      • Shane

I expect the screen to not make a world of difference…
I may have one soon alongside my L800, so I’ll be able judge that for myself.
The ONLY area I expect it to be notably more useful, is when reading lots.
Particularly smaller text, & small text of certain colours + backgrounds of certain colours.
Plus it may also make a tiny difference when it comes to using the VKB with two hands.
But that’s something that depends on the person….

        • stevebarker66

That was my expectation – but I was wrong!

The screen is the biggest area of differentiation for me.

It’s not just bigger font sizes (although I’ll admit that helps) the superior screen quality & considerable size upgrade (you need to have the two next to each other as you say) makes a huge difference to reading web pages, viewing photos or watching videos.

I still use my 710 as a Daily Driver/Work Phone but although it is just as functional and incredibly handy & convenient compared to my own Stormtrooper it feels pokey & cramped by comparison.

My Lumia800 is sort-of a cross-between: the colours are brighter & more vibrant than the 710, but do not compare with the 900′s non-pentile excellence. The 800 feels nicer in the hand with the curved screen, but the extra mass and flat ‘Bible Black’ expanse of the 900′s screen contrasts with the gloss white bodywork until you flick it into life – when the vivid colours and expanse of screen real-estate really set it apart.

Which is best? That comes down to the individual. For me, the 900 would be The One, but I have big hands, eyes that struggle with the 710 & 800′s tiny fonts and an ego the size of Darth Vader.

The Stormtrooper is tops for me :-)

          • Shane

I fully expect not to be nearly as seemingly gobsmacked as you are.
Just from everything I know and have researched…
Videos & photos most definitely won’t be significantly better.
Except if being able to view from a slightly longer distance is somehow important.
