More fun taking snaps on the Nokia 808 PureView (+Pro snaps!)

I got tweeted the other day by Claudiu Voicu – a photographer by trade I believe.

http://www.ihbmedia.com/2012/06/tim-livewire-shieff-pureview-sample-shot/

He said that he found it more fun to shoot with the Nokia 808 PureView than his Canon 5D Mk II. Now that’s just personal preference, but I have to agree with him too that found it more fun taking pictures on the 808 more than I ever have with my DSLR.

It’s easier to hold, put in different positions, quicker to whip out, always there ever ready with you and with the inherent limitations over DSLRs, forces you to be more creative. At least that’s what I find.

So far, we’ve really only seen the Nokia 808 PureView in the hands of techy geeks and camera enthusiasts. Now I’ve only found one pic  so far by Claudio but this looks great!

Speaking of camera enthusiasts, it’s always worth taking a look at Richard Dorman’s snaps as they are stunning. He’s pretty much a pro, no? :D

This gallery we are told is by a Pro Finnish nature photographer (Cheers hannu for the tip!)

oh my n8 camera shutter broke…..

    what must i do……..!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. The 2012-06-19-1418.jpg shot shows almost no CA – great!

Also, I don’t think the DR is worse than those of other premium P&S cameras.

BTW, to download the originals: click “Lataa kuva” in the bottom right corner and, then, “Lataa alkuperäinen”.

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. 808 is quite the beast.

Off topic, but can anyone confirm that there is no longer any warning light when taking pictures with the 808?

you mean the light for ajusting the focus in low light conditions? one thing works for sure: just set it on landscape scene, then it will be off. also i think i read somwhere that you can disable it in the settings somwhere. But then in (really) low light the phone might not be able to focus perfectly. or else use this trick: point the phone on an object which has about the same distance from you as your subject, press the button half down and keep it there, then point on subject and press it through. I use this very often with my N8, but mostly just for having the control over where the focus is (if you want something in the focus, which is to thin for the autofocus, e.g. some grass), its actually really nice to play with.

Well its easier to shoot with the phone.. it doesn’t make sense to shoot in jpeg with a dslr, you have to shoot in RAW, and then process.. way too much work if ask me.

      • “it doesn’t make sense to shoot in jpeg with a dslr, you have to shoot in RAW, and then process.”

This certainly isn’t true. Now, several DSLR’s (or mirrorless cameras) have extremely good JPG processor engines with good resolution and (mostly) good WB. Many of these cameras don’t have much DR headroom in their RAWs either. That is, in most cases (unless you absolutely want to be sure you can later change the WB or try to squeeze up another 1/3…1/2 of a stop from clipped highlight) you can safely shoot in either JPEG or, if you’re cautious, JPEG + RAW mode.
