UK Product codes appear for Nokia 808 PureView on Navifirm

This may not mean anything at all, but on Navifirm, UK/Euro variants for the Nokia 808 PureView have been spotted.

That’s black, red and white 808 PureViews.

Cheers Al Reynolds for the tip

It means that there is a global 808 release, not a conspiracy to treat it like the N9.

Global except of south and central America, Canda, Australia, RSA and some others.

    • Ebon & Unicorn N9s says:

N9 has builds for all the variants country\region specific build. Check the navifirm for N9′s versions & you’ll find versions for UK, India and other countries\regions where it wasn’t released. Builds on Navifirm doesn’t mean it’ll be released everywhere.

I believe 808 will be released to most countries but not a global release with Aus\NZ already saying no and no info on American countries (North, Central & South other than US), RSA & other countries saying they’ll be brining it in although no dates yet. The reason I assume why they are releasing 808 to most countries is to recoup the money spend on developing & building the production line for 808′s camera module since 808 may well be the first & last one with the 41MP sensor. My belief is they still haven’t been able to port it to WP even with the high-end processor\gpu\companion chip & WP8. I was told when the 808 was released that the GPU on the 808 does some data processing for the camera and Nokia were trying to move that to the companion chip. I guess they have found it extremely hard to do that and the original way of doing it wasn’t performing well with WP8. I may be wrong and we may get 41MP WP PVs in 2013\14 but I personally don’t think since everyone related to Nokia talks about elements of 808 PV will find its way to WP.

Global release never means every single country on Earth. This is as global as Nokia does it. Some markets may opt out for whatever local reason, but that is normal.

As for the rest of your speculation, it may be accurate, but the conclusions made from it probably not. Technical hurdles are normal and will be sorted out in time.

N9 was not a global release, but it was also the exception. For reasons MUCH discussed.

        • Ebon & Unicorn N9s says:

Nokia’s global release always meant more than 90% of the market it operated in. I don’t think Nokia will do that with 808.

          • Janne says:

            This is no N9.

It is niche-device so some markets may opt out, of course, but it will be made globally available – while the N9 was not made globally available to several countries by decision.

Ah, but I was using an 808 on Nokia RDA and it had the UK black product code 059M943 (that was how I realised that the 808 codes were on NaviFirm). So at least one real actual 808 has been set up with a UK product code! This gives me hope…

its certainly more “global” than the N9 was.

I’m hoping it means my pre-ordered white 808 from Amazon UK might actually be dispatched in Q2 (Amazon are currently saying that they will dispatch on 29 June) like Nokia originally promised! As long as it arrives by August I’ll still be able to use it on my summer holiday.

    • rob says:

Nokia’s never given a release date (or even confirmation of release) for the UK, so Amazon’s date is purely speculative. But I’m hoping it’s indicative too!

I see dead products. They’re everywhere! One thing Umbrella, Corp. and Nokia have in common.
