Nokia 808 PureView scratch test Video

You know the drill, bring sharp objects; scratch screen; use magic wipe to fix glass- the latest phone to be tortured/tickled with knives and forks is the 808 pureview, putting it’s gorilla glass to the test. Check out the video below:

    I want 808
    huhuhu

If only it were able to withstand shocks just as well..

  3. hw says:

has anyone tried the mobipocket for s60v5 beta(never officially released) on nokia pureview 808? How well does it work on 808?

  4. MoritzJT says:

Just tried it on the 808. It does not respond to touch input aside from the menus. Thus switching to fullscreen is not advised unless you intend to reinstall. Scrolling works via volume rocker, clicking links does not work at all.

    • MoritzJT says:

That should have been a reply to hw of course ;-)

    • Ali Abdulla says:

      hows opera mobile?
how fast ? stable? etc etc

if poss can u record a demo?
i cant find a SINGLE video about opera mobile :)

      • MoritzJT says:

Sure, just check back in a few minutes ;-)

        • MoritzJT says:

Oh boy, a few minutes :D 8 Minutes of recorded video and about 900 MB to upload to youtube. This could take ‘a while’

      • MoritzJT says:

So, I did forget to mention, that Opera is pretty stable, it did not crash once for me! On everyday websites, it is absolutely enough to satisfy Joe Average!

So this is just a very short and not in detail demo of Opera Mobile 12 on the 808 PV.

Excuse my terrible highpitched voice, I’ve got a little cold currently.

Here’s the link to the video, which is, at the time of writing, still uploading and will encode afterwards but then it should be up :-)

        • Ali Abdulla says:

thanks a lot man, video still proccessing.. I forgot about opera 12, since it was very laggy on my n8, deletted it and installed 11.5 .. I wonder if the 808 will change that
          thanks again :)

        • Weirdfishes says:

Oh God why it is still so laggy.

        • Matt says:

I see you’re using Swype, is it working well? Can you double-tap incorrect words to bring up the word-selection box?

          • MoritzJT says:

It’s working extremely well and is sometimes way more responsive than on my N9.

            On doubletap to edit:

Nope, not in splitscreen, that is something Swype/Nuance has to fix themselves…

            Cheers

            • Matt says:

omg! I’ve been mumbling to myself for months about the double-tap to select/correct a word not working, then just a few minutes ago I’d entered “lets” and tapped the cursor before the s to insert an apostrophe but instead of hitting the symbol key I hit the Swype button…and the word selection box appeared!

So there’s my answer, I don’t need to select the whole word, I just have to have placed the cursor within the word.

              Happy days!

            • MoritzJT says:

That only hold’s true for AVKON heritage in the system. Anywhere where we can see QML in place, the QML text boxes allow for double tap to select a word. You’ll still have to use the Swype button afaik.

            • Shane says:

Can you be more specific on how it’s “way more responsive than your N9″?
Also, is it more feature-packed than the N9′s Swype?
I it is, I’d expect N9′s Swype to be updated in all fairness.

              • MoritzJT says:

Featurepacked?! No, Swype on the N9 is better there, only on the side of responsiveness, the N9 sometimes lags a little behind, at least that was the case on PR1.1 and non overclocked handset.

For now, both are pretty much on par ;-)

So the only thing Swype needs to fix is that their Symbian variant has not yet matched the height of the new splitscreen inputview that belle introduced in nearly all places.

I’d rather like to see an update for Swype on Symbian, than on Harmattan. The latter is pretty much as good as it can get.

I also wonder why they can’t back down from their own UX and simply use the stock KBs and do the tracing from there. Would be much more consistent, if you ask me.

I don’t need no swype button or their special layouts. I’m fine with system stock ones that at least follow the system themes.

That applies to both, Harmattan and Symbian.

                • Shane says:

                  @MoritzJT

So you’ve not yet updated to PR1.2?
Can you cite a few features it has that the Symbian variant doesn’t?
Are you sure there’s no features on Symbian Swype, that aren’t in Harmattan’s Swype?
                  I’m surprised by that….
I wonder if the lag you experience in Harmattan’s Swype is improved with PR1.2?
Can’t say I personally have noticed any lag in PR1.2.

                  Cheers.

                  • MoritzJT says:

I’m on PR1.3 which is okay for Swype. Featurewise they do not take each other away though you can access more settings of Swype on harmattan by a little tweak.

                    • Shane says:

                      @MoritzJT final questions:

["I’m on PR1.3 which is okay for Swype."]

So for you, Swype is now just as smooth as Belle FP1, no more laginess?

["Featurewise they do not take each other away though you can access more settings of Swype on harmattan by a little tweak."]

You mean this hidden dialogue that can be revealed:

So on-balance you do find Harmattan’s Swype to be more feature-packed?

                      Cheers mate!

                    • Shane says:

I’m on PR1.3 now too, but dont have Belle FP1 device.

    I have a N9 (has gorilla glass).
After a week vacation spended for a third of the day at the beach, there are some scratches on my phone. Under real conditions (maybe because of the higher temperatures) the glass makes no miracles..
