Video: Qt 5 on Raspberry Pi

| July 16, 2012 | 27 Replies

Here’s a look at Qt 5 on Raspberry Pi. This is running in full HD, though to stop the flickering is set at 25FPS which is apparently not as smooth as the original presentation.

After the login, what you’re looking at is a Qt 5 App written mostly in QML on the Raspberry Pi.

What’s a Raspberry Pi?

The Raspberry Pi is a credit-card sized computer that plugs into your TV and a keyboard. It’s a capable little PC which can be used for many of the things that your desktop PC does, like spreadsheets, word-processing and games. It also plays high-definition video. We want to see it being used by kids all over the world to learn programming.

i remmeber one of the few reasons why some symbian devs said they did not develop apps for symbian is because they are waiting for qt5 to come to symbian.

Erm, pardon a layman asking this, is qt5 only ready now? @.@

    • Rezza says:

Nokia already removed everything that was looking like a Symbian support from Qt 5 :) So, no Qt 5 on Symbian => no Symbian… No Harmattan/MeeGo/Meltemi… :D

    • Bloob says:

Nope, still not ready ( although the features are looking good ). And as far as I know it is not coming to Symbian.

      • arts says:

wow. i remember hearing this back in end of 2011. wow just, wow.

        • arts says:

i mean i was complaining about the lack of apps (youtube and evernote) and that statement was mentioned.

i mean now i know its not true because there are app (ONLY paid, one each) for symbian. But what kind of retarded dev would make such a lousy excuse in the past? wish i could dig it up and shame him .

    • James says:

Hasn’t been coming to Symbian since forever, “at least” 7mth now it’s been pretty certain, probably longer.

  2. vladest says:

shame on you Nokia, who killed all of this

    • Bloob says:

Killed? Qt is still very much alive, and available for anyone who wants to take advantage of it.

      • vladest says:

        but not on Nokia phones

        • ashok pai says:

yeah… if you see the flood of Qt apps, I would want to push elop off that platform of his… elop is squarely responsible for pushing viable technologies off that platform, along with the userbase. anyways, elop bashing is out of fashion.

    • toermel says:

Qt is not killed at all. It is still relevant for Linux, Windows and Mac OS X and I don’t see why Nokia’s plans of the past should affect Qt’s future on desktop systems… and I don’t get the surprise of seeing Qt on a Debian Linux ;)

      • noki says:

Qt unlike Nokia as a very good future, its king in embedded area, the base for BB10, and the best toolkit for people into cross-platform. Plus its the most used toolkit for software like Maya.

      • vladest says:

last thing we are all here care about desktop staff

        • toermel says:

Obviously you do care. Or why are you commenting on a video which features a desktop computer booting a desktop OS?

  3. noki says:

In case no one knows, raspberry Pi hardware costs 25$.

  4. juwelrana says:

    No Qt,No symbian,No MeeGo………. NO Nokia……..Only Jolla.

  5. hosny santos says:

    yes go ,go, go jolla

  6. Bassman says:

Another interesting thread that promised interesting discussion has descended into bitching about Elop….. Great.

    • James says:

Did you really want to have that discussion? I mean really.
      If you’re 100% behind the strategy as it’s evolved…
Then this story & debate around it (in all honesty) would be of little interest to you.
TBH I dont even know why Jay bothers with posting such stories any more.

      • Bassman says:

Who said I’m 100% behind any strategy? I’m simply making the point that any chance of a decent discussion about the technology gets hi-jacked by people who (rightly or wrongly) hold a great deal of bitterness. Regardless of what side of the fence I sit on I’m just getting a bit tired of the same comments over and over again.
