MobileSyrup’s Nokia 808 PureView ReView

| July 17, 2012 | 11 Replies

It has been a while since we’ve seen any major reviews of the Nokia 808 PureView (as they all came out pretty close together).

Here is Canadian tech blog, MobileSyrup’s take on the Nokia 808 PureView. Instantly from the URL you can expect praises for the camera. How will the rest of it stack up?

The PureView 808 isn’t going to win any awards for design or software — it’s hefty, clunky and kind of a brick — but it is certainly exciting for what it foreshadows. The next few years will be fought over iterative hardware jumps — quad-core, DDR3, HD — but imaging is an area ripe for innovation. We’ve already seen the beginning of such a revolution with burst mode on the HTC One series and Galaxy S III, and we’re looking forward to what Microsoft comes up with in the next version of Windows Phone.

Is burst mode imaging innovation now? I’m sure Nokia’s been innovating quite a bit on imaging for a while (they just suck so bad at advertising that the world doesn’t know it. Yeah, I’m gonna keep harping on about the poor advertising department until they do something decent again).

Cheers stylinred for the tip.

Just re-label the 808 to called WP8, and everybody will be happy..Thats what they want dont they ? All the 808 features in a Windows Phone..? How blind can you get..

  2. Dave says:

Burst mode is definitely not an innovation/revolution – its been around on cameras for years (SLRs with auto-advance, etc.), SE had BestShot on the K800 years back which took 9 pictures in (very) quick succession, you could save/discard as you saw fit.

And from what I recall of it, the K800 probably took better quality pictures than the One X ….

ya its definetly not an inovation and is it usefullllll lol, its just for show… i dont want to select one good image from 6 images, i want 6 images to be good and thats what makes pureview special

      • Dave says:

Depends on how its used, but it can be useful.

I use it regularly on my DSLR, sporting events, lots of action – just keep the shutter pressed and get a series of images.

In the case of the K800, it tended to be that all the pictures were good – the idea was that 4 were captured before you pressed the shutter, 4 after the primary picture. So much reduced chance of missing the moment, it was a very, very useful feature.

ya its good for sports and do u know the diffrence between brust mode in 808 and htc one series or gs3, i mean no of shots and time taken

Won’t win awards for design? I love the design. Has an n9 feel in the hand instead of a credit card feel. That hump is beautiful tech look. That is…”mine is bigger than yours no matter how much you may cry,fanboy.”. It has an sports cars appeal. Symbian belle is android without the animation. Take that syrup,eh?? Can’t wait to wave this in front of all the Canadians at the Sault.

  4. stylinred says:

There are several inaccuracies etc in the review but its still nice to see the 808 talked about even on a Canadian blog since it wont be released here

  5. Maybe says:

The reality is the advertising department is fully occupied with doomia…. That’s why… well, That’s their only focus anyway…

    • Just Visiting says:

Lol! No amount of advertising is going to entice people to use Symbian. Actually, advertising may steer even those remotely interested in the camera away from the device altogether!

  6. Carman58 says:

Typical transatlantic review, totally dismissing the OS & UI without actually using it, it may not be the fastest but is perfectly useable, and many of the blogs reviewing the 808 simply talk absolute BOLLOCKS !! #Justsayin

  7. lmiked says:

HEY HEY HEY!!! GUYS!!! My N9 innovates too!!! With burst mode in the camera!!! :p NOOOOT!!! lol seriously, who are the guys that are reviewing the phone??? They don’t know jack about imaging… I Don’t either but, calling burst mode innovation is just… I don’t even have a word to describe it so… Fuc*** stupid would be the most accurate!!! I mean even the N97 had a burst mode (sequence mode), or something similar, very slow (N97 not exactly the King of specs :p) and useless but still…
Yeah… You know Jay, Nokia wouldn’t even need to advertise the 808 to well, just mention camera phone, 41 mpx, 12X lossless zoom, and ground breaking unprecendented sound quality, and a lot of people would buy it, not only the target market, but people that like efficient things, like a phone that you can do many things with like, calls, check email, listen to music, play games, watch movies, and then take the best and superior quality photos and videos, with the best in the market (mobile phone market) audio recording, all with one device, without having to carry an camera all the time for that, or a media player… But then… such a device could shine away a little bit of the attention from the Lumia WP phones, and also be spendind the resources that Steve’O Elopy’O has ordered to be spent advertising the so far failed Lumia WP.
