Weekend Read: Nokia’s Bridge Programme

We heard about Nokia’s Bridge programme a lot when Jolla was announced. What exactly is it? AAS has an insightful article below that shows Nokia taking responsibilities for employees who have lost their job due to Nokia’s strategy changes. It’s interesting to learn that over 300 companies are being supported through this programme, Jolla amongst them.

Looking at the comments section, unfortunately it seems not all employees are eligible.

“ All of us with lots of industry experience, engineering graduates, etc. and all based in Western Europe. Not one of us was eligible to even apply for an application to the Bridge Program. HR just told us things like ‘the Bridge Program isn’t available in your country’.”

Cheers Lordstar for the tip

very noble of nokia to help ex-employees gain a future,
not many companies would do that,

Ever heard of redundancy packages, this is just a re-badged version of that.
One that is a little more flexible in that it’s not just for individuals.
But for individuals working collectively to form co’s etc…
No amazing thing going on here when you compare industry-wide, or even outside this field.

Well, as depressing as it is to hear about job losses, I can’t think of one other company I’ve heard of that has provided this kind of support, at all. I know plenty of people who have been “downsized” in this economy, and all of them have been left out in the cold, with only meagre severance to see them through the next few months. Not only did Nokia have an actual programme for this kind of thing, but they have acknowledged the supreme talent within the MeeGo Harmattan team, and have given a helping hand towards MeeGo’s future, which through Jolla looks much brighter than it did 3 weeks ago. :)

Gordon, I don’t normally respond to trolls like you, but could you please stop shitting on everything everywhere?

Maybe you should thank some of the people that put this in place, instead of leaving droplets of crap everywhere?

      • GordonH says:

People lose jobs, it’s sad right. But don’t touch my Elop whoa . Facts are as convent as you make them out to be.

there’s a typo in there. 1.2 million plus <500k is shares with a possible bonus of 2.8 million if he can get the shares up to €9 by the end of 2012.

He has the incentive to move in the best direction if he wants those Bennies
