Video: Symbian/Nokia Belle FP2 demo

| July 26, 2012 | 57 Replies

This is a video that is supposedly showing Symbian/Nokia Belle FP2.

I am not sure if there are any additional third party effects going on here or if this is pure Belle FP2 stuff.

I’m liking that swipey homescreen.

It looks really good. Nice effects from the N9.

  2. arts says:

Looking good. I wonder what would it look like on a N8.

keyboard still looks cramped thou, and the web browser still stutters

but the general implementation seems alright.

  3. SLAYER says:

    these are the default effects.

    looks nicer than on RDA.

  4. jiipee says:

Who are still working on it? The best resources at Accenture either left or have been transferred to WP work.

    • mee-gone says:

@jiipee: probably all the elop haters whining here.

    • dss says:

I am wondering the same thing, it must be people accenture.. they deserve one big thank you by the way, if you look @ symbian a year and look at FP2.. big UX improvements overall.

  5. DKM says:

This update is coming out in couple of weeks and Belle refresh for older devices same time along. (my be next week)

    • dss says:

Good news! I bet the 808 would be the last to get the FP2 because of the camera app, unless its just an easy port. Also, I hope they’ve fixed the gallery app in the 808 firmware, the one we have now works, but it lacks a lot of features.

  6. skyfall says:

    Looking nice

  7. arts says:

it saddens me to see this. I dont know if nokia actually believed what they say that symbian does not need 1ghz procs, but i doubt the n8 can run this version of symbian like this nokia device does.

  8. nokian8 says:

nokia fan for 12 years, symbian fan for 7 years..
now that symbian is starting to look lets say..like modern OS, they say its last update..
if they waren’t lazy for last 4 fuc**** years situations would be completly different. nokia deserve it all..
they didnt want it to follow technology like google with android(which i hate).
and on top of all they are selling their phones on same price like iphone or galaxy s3..
i’m sorry but times are different, they should put 808 twice cheaper beause of symbian.. i love nokia but i’m really disapointed what has becomed. they are hardware company not software like google so they should buy from the start a great company that would make symbian v5 a great os from the start or go with meeamo/meego..
now for android its too late beacouse only samsung make profit from.
if elop wasnt stupid microsoft trojan horse, hee would make WP7/8, ANDROID, MEEGO and SYMBIAN phones(like samsung with multiple OSes) so that everyone can choose what they want.
NOKIA START LISTENING TO BUYERS BECAUSE WE PUT YOU WHERE YOU ONCE WERE!
    everyone left to other companies..

      1) All Symbian users and lovers need “SYMBIAN v5″ and also more devices with “MeeGo” and “MELTIMI”.

      2) When Nokia has its native OSes, why the hell Nokia depends on WP.

      3)Who can fire Elop?

  9. hosny santos says:

excellent, like an usuary off N8 and 701 i am happy for that, in future i am waiting for jolla or perhps N9 ,here in Brasil its not for sale, but millions off usuaries say tanks for that, is more off android make for his customers,

    • John says:

You’ve been saying you’re going to get a N9 for about 6-mth now.
If you don’t hurry-up you won’t be able to find it anywhere…
I wouldn’t be surprised if Nokia stop manufacturing it any day now.
It’s probably still being manufactured in China, thanks to some recent manufacturing dates revealed by posters at TMO.
But I doubt that manufacturing will continue for much longer.

  10. Gerii says:

Please use the old embed code, as the new one is breaking Symbians flash plugin. Also the source link seems to be invalid.

  11. Shriek says:

Sigh the Notification panel is still pretty much useless i guess.

No email notifications, no im notifications, no whatsapp notifications. I guess the little developers there cant seem to access the notification panel.

    • D.Rooney says:

I Agree mate.Nokia should allow them to access the notification bar.Whatsapp notifications are a must.even email and IM are important.

  12. Michael Faro-Tusino says:

I think Nokia should have “killed” Symbian a while ago. It looks awesome now, if only this was around for the launch of N8, Nokia may have ended up in a different spot. Oh well, no point looking back now, only looking forward

    • MoritzJT says:

I think you can’t kill something you are not in power of. As long as communities exist you can’t kill something that’s in their second hand control.

The only thing Nokia can do is drop support. They could’ve done that earlier but they cannot ever kill it. Not now not in the past not in the future. It’ll die on its own!

The thing Nokia should’ve done is handling their transitions a lot better.

Retarded people everywhere without any risk assessment. And if so, it’s rubbish ;-)

  13. lordstar says:

Makes me want the 701 again. Like the transitions as well as the new vkb. Browser is still meh

    • dss says:

ya.. we get around 220 with fp1 on the html5 test, 260 with fp2, still behind. They needed to start using the GPU with it, not just the CPU, but that will never happen now.. since this is the last update.

Maybe.. the browser is a separate app as far as I know, so it can be updated without a firmware update ?

  14. twinklestar1792 says:

Need to change lot of strategy at Nokia

  15. sdfg says:

    Where is Belle Refresh?

    • twinklestar1792 says:

When belle refresh is going to be roll out for N8, then only N8 users can think about Belle FP2

  16. goosepig says:

Just when Symbian finally comes good and starts to look slick.. they bin it. Classic, another great Nokia move.

  17. juwelrana091 says:

symbian is not for dull people….symbian is still more powerfull os then other….my nokia 700 very smooth and lot of features…Qt apps is awasome…if nokia not make foolish announcement it will show u all what is symbian.

  18. juwelrana091 says:

i think nokia 700 is my last nokia handset…i will move to jolla os which work for Meego. Jolla will be my new nokia.

  19. Maybe says:

Why Nokia don’t put S40 browser as an alternative as it’s much smoother?

  20. Viipottaja says:

Looks nice, in particular that semitransparent lock screen and the swipe gestures. Pity the menu screen looks to me so outdated with those massive and rather ugly (IMO) squircles. Hopefully the browser and onscreen qwerty are finally decent too (perhaps they already are, have not tried them in a while).

  21. Chris Wayne says:

wow thats impressive, got only 138 points on html5 test on my lumia
