Leaked: Nokia Document listing features of WP8 coming (or not) to WP7.8

| August 14, 2012 | 64 Replies

This just popped up on twitter, apparently from yesterday. Word is, that SmartPhone France have gotten hold of this leaked document. Here it is:

So what does it tell us? Quite a bit actually. Until now, the only thing we have known for certain was coming, was the New HomeScreen. It also looks like there may be a new lock screen coming. I hope it does and that it will be like in Win8, where you have an image, and can draw a pattern on that image, to unlock the device. Way better than the grid of circles implemented in Android.

The few HW related features such as NFC, MicroSD, MultiCore Support, Wallet etc., we already knew wouldn’t be coming. Everything else listed seems to be what was logically presumed.

With Nokia World less than 3 weeks away, I am getting excited to see what Nokia can do, and if it will be enough.

New lockscreen? Swipe please.. I think drawing a pattern might be too time consuming??? haha

  2. jesse says:

The only one that makes me sad is ie10, it is so much better!

  3. reflex says:

any1 who has a 808 lets all follow each other on twitter follow me @sirreflex

  4. stylinred says:

    no IE10?

  5. manu says:

    wow real multitasking on wp8.

    • vladest says:

in terms of m$ “real multitasking” doesnt means real multitasking

      • Mark says:

        Yeah, how do yo know?

Using m$ makes you look retarded by the way.

        • vladest says:

          reading press releases
ok, lets assume, I’m retarded. just ignore me

        • Kasi Viswanath says:

I am not quite sure why anyone would look retarded for using M$ for Microsoft. As far as I know, that has been the norm in the web for many years now.

Now the second point, if my memory serves me correct, they had advertised the current one as multitasking before. If WP8 introduces “real” multitasking, what was this current thing then? Will they care to explain this to people? I guess, No.

Remember, either there is multitasking or there is none. The intermediate stuff is just marketing gimmick. Sad part is many (I mean many) people fall for this.

          Anyways, Have a good day,

  6. Ajit says:

Symbian has been doing all this for a looong time….

The CEO of Nokia is soooooo Dumb!

  7. robin says:

I do not see any innovation, you see it ? I am more than sure this WP8 will be equal or very similar to n9, you will see it

    • Ajit says:

or probably worse than the N9…

      • jiipee says:

For sure better than N9. There was a lot of optimization needed ofr N9.

It is still worth comparing in the sense of the new strategy. This slide statest that the innovation is not there, what Elop promized; still playing catch-up. Maybe next Spring? Also, there would have been N10 already and one or two more models by the time WP8 devices are out.

Let’s see what is the final package.

        • Trevor Holden says:

Yes, we are waiting and waiting for next future. We have get used to this already by now.

        • Ajit says:

Can you name any optimization thats required for the N9? I have one and I am happy with it after moving from my Symbian – E72. You are talking as if LUMIA is perfect.

If I were to move to a Lumia, I will definately miss the Bt Tx, multitasking (True/real/proper).

Yes I have to wait sometimes because of a tad bit of lag, but I dont miss any feature or I dont have to buy or subscribe to a cloud storage… The person sitting next to me has a Windows phone which cannot switch between 2G and 3G because his operator has locked it to 3G. He cannot transfer photos to me via BT, he has to send me a mail… blah blah blah… He cannot activate simple services by dialing simple *123# or similar numbers with * and #. He basically has a phone that cannot be controlled….

    • viipottaja says:

Hi, what is the type of “innovation” you would expect to be listed on a list like this?

  8. Bloob says:

IMO this doesn’t look real, someone just put together things we already “know”

  9. MeeGo says:

No bluetooth? That’s lame. Windows Phone is so dull!

    • viipottaja says:

lol. Where does it say there is “no bt”?

    • Hypnopottamus says:

You really haven’t been paying attention have you? BT has already been confirmed and reported SEVERAL times already. MORE IMPORTANTLY, why are people treating this as a complete (or even official) list of features contained in WP8?

  10. ms.nokia says:

it will be very interesting to see what success the company hub (yammer) has,
will it be the new facebook ms is hoping for ?

  11. Chén Zhé says:

Weird. I don’t think WP8 has real multitasking. Probably a fake document

    • Trevor Holden says:

Just a marketing trick I suppose. I doubt in real multitasking also. This is “Leaked Document” so nobody is responsible for it content and there could be even an artificial intelligence, without any consequences for authors IMHO. But rumours has been made. Who cares for details? This is “Leaked Document” accidentally of course. This is very interesting, if you can understand what I mean.

  12. SLAYER says:

    nokia lecture?

  13. Trevor Holden says:

Among the newest achievements I can see as revolutionary solutions in mobile devices as:
    - micro SD card (what a revolution!)
    - update OTA (who will pay bills for transmissions? will it be like updates work with PC?)
    - NFC (isn’t it 2 years old gadget?)
    - device management (I hold my breath….)
    - IE10 (by default? how about users which prefer other browsers?)
I am sure this will be next howling success of Lumia. And revolution of course.

  14. jajai says:

no real multitasking for current users (upgradeable to wp7.8)???

  15. viipottaja says:

Michael, the new lock screen would refer to the new notification and background picture features.

  16. no microsd support to WP 7.8..How will they fight against lower priced android ?

    • steelicon says:

      They can’t.

Actually they can’t even fight NOKIA’s own Symbian and MeeGo handsets, they had to declare it as “The Burning Platform” so that Microsoft Windows Phone won’t look so lame in comparison.

That also applies to Meltemi and Smarterphone, those had to go away, too, along with Qt and 500 odd patents.

Ripping the house to pieces to fuel the fireplace.

Come to think of it, it’s like “pissing one’s own pants for warmth.”

    • Patata says:

With lower priced WP8 devices ;)
WP 7.8 is EOL, it won’t continue as lowend os or something like that. Windows Phone 7 was a placeholder and testing platform for early adapters. MS alsways knew that and of course Nokia knew that for a while too.
7.8 will be more or less the final big update for those who bought one of that placeholder devices ;)

      • Viipottaja says:

You may be right although Elop did make some remark that there could be a mix of both 7.8s and 8s in the low end. Which is another reason to believe/hope that 7.8 will bring more than just the homescreen from WP8 (i.e. e.g. such simple things as multiselecting pictures etc.)

        • manu says:

ya elop told nokia will continue wp7.8 for a long time to compete against cheap androids in developing nations.considering many low end androids still run on older versions.
But if bt file transfer,sd card support and ussd code support is not present then it dont stand a chance.anyway android and samsung is having a gala time.

          • Viipottaja says:

What is USSD code support? I must admit I have no clue. :)

I would imagine BT file transfer might be something they could add to even 7.8.

            • arts says:

its something many telcos use for prepaid and even post paid functions.

              example:

i have a monthly plan of 500mb but sometimes i know i need to access the net to download or upload large amount of files. i might purchase a separate pass using the ussd to avoid burning through my usual quota.

and this example is one of the more trivial things USSD can do.

It also activates prepaid sims in some cases. Imagine not being able to do that. =.=

            • manu says:

its used to check mobile balance ,to recharge account,to check offers, check data plan usage etc.id guess its used atleast 5 times daily by everyone in india.

            • dansus says:

Dont think WinCE supports BT FTP.

        • Patata says:

Don’t forget that the same guy told us that Nokia is going to sell 150 Million more Symbian phones and that it will get support at least until 2016. So why do you believe that what he tells now about WP 7.8 is something to take serious? Of course he must say so if Nokia wants to sell any WP device at all and he hopes that such lame promises are enough.. again

    • Hypnopottamus says:

WP 7.8 is only a rough upgrade to current WP7.5 devices. It will bring certain SOFTWARE/UI features to WP7.5 devices. There aren’t any WP7.5 phones with microsd slots (maybe 1). You can’t update hardware, making your point about no microsd to WP7.8 moot. WP8 will support it, though.

      • manu says:

true so whatever plan elop has with wp7.8.its gonna be a failure.

        • steelicon says:

Whatever it is, if and when NOKIA goes down, I hope NOKIA takes Microsoft Windows Phone along with it. Then all the other partners will stare in shock and horror and will also abandon this burning platform.

If not, then “Keep calm and SISU on…”

        • Viipottaja says:

Not sure microSD card support is the only determining factor of it, in particular since there is a world outside of India too you know.. ;)

  17. Chris Wayne says:

    No IE10?, that hurts ;(
