#N9Hacks: Enable Traffic in Nokia Drive

| August 15, 2012 | 19 Replies

I’ve been using this for the last month thanks to my friend Arie ( @EverythingN9 ). I wanted to bring this to you guys earlier, but the method to install the patch was rather involved for the everyday user. I’ve recently learned that N9 Quick Tweak (N9QT) has this option as part of it’s extensive list of tweaks and mods.

This is what has lead me to bring it to your attention. To install N9QT, you will need developer mode active (Settings > Security> Dev. Mode) and also third party installations (Settings>App.>Intall.). The file can be downloaded from here. Simply click the link on your N9, and open it from the Transfer UI.

I have made the assumption that the cities supported by Traffic are the same cities supported in Nokia Drive 3.0. The patch also enables Automatic/Day/Night colouring for Drive.

Is Sydney traffic one of the supported cities?

    • Michael Faro-Tusino

Not sure, haven’t used it around the CBD. Where I live it doesn’t get it, but I live in a semi-rural area

any business reason why this feature are locked officially? lack of testing?

    • Michael Faro-Tusino

The development team was most likely told to stop and work on WP. We’ve heard a few times that some from dev team from MeeGo were first inside Nokia to make WP versions of their apps. Most likely this team was told to stop Traffic on MeeGo and put it on WP.

      *Entirely my own speculation*

It was somewhere rumored that there are comments in the appropriate files like “put it back when management changes its mind”… :-)

So it was ready(?) but remained inactive…

Maybe WP version of Nokia Drive was not supporting it at that time?

How would it look like when application of a dead platform is more feature-full than the favourized one… :-)

      • Sefriol

That’s true. They switched to WP before N9 was released. Atleast “the most talented” guys.

        • Nathan

          Sheer & utter FUD….
The major shrinkages started happening shortly after it first hit shelves (Oct).
They came in waves over that 10mth period, there’s one or two more waves before a pure skeleton team remains.
There was/is no such thing as a coordinated effort to get “the most talented” away from the team in the 1s few waves.
And many haven’t gone into the Mobile Phones division anyway. Instead they’ve left the co, which has meant that recruitment’s been needed, but not heavy because the same no’s aren’t needed for the far less sw-centric Nokia that’s being shaped.

Mentioned utility requires PR1.3 – still not available for my Swiss N9… :-(
