Video/Photo Editing on Nokia 808 Pureview (Vs. N8)

| August 15, 2012 | 9 Replies

So here’s a nice look at the video and photo editing features that come pre-built into the 808; vs. the former heavy weight camera king the N8. I mianly use the photo edit feature for quick fixes like auto adjust (using that alot on the Lumia 900 these days) as well as the quick crop.

For some reason the full range of video editing software was removed from the 808, short of the crop/edit time frame; but honestly I don’t think too many people used that in the first place. Editing both photos and videos is super smooth on the 808 and is actually a joy to use.

i think, video editor in n8 must be there in 808 too. I often use it to make a slideshow from my photos

Bummer, I did not expect this to be so, that the video editing in N8 is gone in Nokia 808. Am truly disappointed…Nokia..One would logically assume consistency especially in upgrades. This is why the iPhone is a such a hit, no such thing as this..

That’s too bad. There are certainly some features that i’m missing on my 808 that I used to use on the n8.

For example, the sharpness adjustment is no longer there. I used to it a lot before.although it only artificially sharpens and may even ruin your image, sometimes it produced quite nice interesting effects.

Also the sketch cartoon effect is gone, the one that makes your pictures look like a comic sketch.. That was one of my favorite effects. Anyone knows any alternative app to get that effect?

When does video lose more quality, editing it on the phone or on a PC?

If you cut a video on 808 and if you cut the same video with Sony Vegas, which will end up with better quality(obviously both will degrade from re-encoding) in the end?

The N8, 808 and other Symbian phones with built-in video editors (going back to the N93 probably) do not re-encode. They just ignore the data for the unwanted frames at the start and end of each clip, and re-save the part of the video that you want to keep just as it was. So if you only want to shorten a video, there’s no point in using Vegas to do it.

Adobe Premiere used to not re-encode automatically, if it detected that the video clips you were using were a match for your output settings, and featured sections that were unaltered by transitions and filters etc. Obviously this was great as it was fast and didn’t cause a quality drop in the days of people trying to make low bit-rate videos for CD-ROM with crap codecs. No idea if it can still do that as I haven’t used it since version 4.2. Meanwhile Vegas can’t even be trusted not to blend frames for no reason unless you go into some completely vague options to turn that off.

I didn’t know the 808 could trim videos though. Unitl this story I just assumed the video editor had completely vanished. It’s crap that the speech bubbles are missing from the photo editor though. I used them quite a bit.

  5. As an added benefit, internet radio offers music at a better quality than traditional radio.
The radio has its own stream through a wireless router and you
can easily listen to all the existing radio stations.
The banner ad may be placed on the same page listeners go to when they want to listen
    to the station on-line.
