Nokia 808 PureView for $599.99 at Amazon US

| August 22, 2012 | 29 Replies

This is a third party seller and there are only two in stock, but Amazon US has the Nokia 808 PureView for just $599.99 now. That’s equivalent to about £316/€400. Amazon UK still has this priced quite high at £474.99, with Amazon Germany at €547.

Cheers James Scott for the tip.

  1. Cod3rror says:

Insanely expensive, should be $250, at most.

    • Pökö says:

      Insanely stupid comment.

By the way, the 1€ is about 1.25$. So 600$ is about 480€.

Plust taxes of course or is there taxes included in Amazon US?

    • andy says:

how much those a 8mp sgs3 phone cost?and how much those a well optimzed 41mp nokia 808 cost?nokia 808 is cheaper.it won lots of prizes by the way and its the last symbian devices

    • Oh Hei says:

Cod3rror…I agree, somewhat; I think that the 808 should be no more than $300 USD.

Symbian/Belle/FP1/FP2 or whatever you want to call it, greatly devalues this device. $300 for the camera, Rich Recording, and offline navigation.

  2. Vedhas Patkar says:

This was the launch price in India. Its cheaper now, not in the Nokia store but elsewhere.

  3. Paul says:

In my opinion the main function of the 808 is to demo PureView technology and to tease (and to tease only) the audience for PureView WP8.

IMHO they don’t want to sell the 808, they only want to have it as example for technology to generate a strong as possible demand for PureView WP8.

    • jake20 says:

I agree somewhat.. but if they didnt want to sell it then they would not be selling it.

They have the tech ready, so by selling it they can effectively accomplish several things.

      1. Possibly gain some new users who are attracted to the camera.
      2. Keep some existing users from jumping ship to android/iphone until Pureview Lumia is ready.
      3. Advertise Pureview technology
      4. Depending on cost to produce (which i don’t know), possibly make some profit off 808 sales even.

      • Paul says:

I think they need SOME devides in customers hands for customer-made reviews and personal recommendations of real customers for their marketing.

If they would’nt sell it, IMHO also the reviews of bloggers and so on wouldn’t have that positive effect, if every bloggers mention the “it’s a nice thing but it’s only a tech-demo and not for sale” words.

    • stylinred says:

i was in greece for a week and everyone knew what the 808 was; in conversation they mention the nokia commercial about “zooming in on the zoom”

thing is though i walked into a few mobile shops and electronic shops and didn’t see 1 ad or even the 808 on shelves -_-

  4. jake20 says:

i was waiting for the price to drop in the US, and it has by $100 already.. but there is something still telling me that its still just too expensive.

I paid $549 for my N8 2 years ago, so $600 would be worth it to me for the 808.. but we know things have changed for Symbian/Nokia in the last 2 years… and new apps/games are all but gone now.

I am having a really hard time now convincing myself that I am basically buying another N8 with a better camera, and some more memory for $600.

With the 808, i will have even less app/games than I have now on my N8 because the 808 runs Belle FP1 which many symbian apps aren’t even supporting yet, and may never.

I want that 808 camera so so bad, but for $600? i am just not sure.

    • Oh Hei says:

You paid full MSRP for the N8????

Goodness! You must have really wanted the N8! That device wasn’t worth more than $250.

Symbian devalues any device, not to mention the very dry app store. But if you are going to be snapping pics all the time, and because you want that camera soooo bad, not sure why you are having to convince yourself to buy it – you just said that $600 would be worth it for the 808. You obviously don’t have issues with spending money on items not worth the money you’re spending for it:)

      • jake20 says:

your so busy just hating on Symbian you failed to even realize what I was saying..

I said the 808 would be worth $600, but things have changed in the last 2 years with the discontinuing of Symbian which now make me not sure anymore.

i also live in the US, so the N8 was not available on any contract.

I think you are jsut a troll

        • Oh Hei says:

You said it was worth $600 – what the hell are you not sure about – it being worth $600 or buying it for $600? If it’s worth $600 to you, then buy it since you want the camera so bad!

I live in the U.S. too…I sure as hell didn’t pay $549 for the N8 as it wasn’t worth that much. But I got one for a bargain, at the time…a little over $300.

Yes, Symbian is not great. If that is considered ‘hating’ to you, so be it.

          • jake20 says:

You sound like a lot of aholes I know. the guy who “always” gets a great deal on everything.. cocky, arrogant.. jerk

You are why us Americans get a bad rap with the rest of the world.

The problem with Symbian is not the OS itself, its the lack of developer support now that its been given EOL status.

    • MontyN95 says:

I’m in the same boat! I really want the 808 but find it hard to justify shelling out £480 for it right now. (I want the red by the way!!)

    • jake20 says:

Amazon sells it for $609, but 3rd party seller Wireless Everything selling it for $599. Just look at the “More Buying Choices” on the right side of the page.

But for only $10 more dollars I would still buy it directly from Amazon. com as the seller.

    • pureviewfan says:

do you have red nokia 808

      • Jari says:

Yep, I do have a red 808 here in Finland.. Now working ok, the 1st 808 I got could not find GPS coordinates, got a new one, and now it works ok… M$ believers have to wait some three years to have Pureview “pro”, before it, Nokia is done.. :-( Love teh 808 Red.. Better I expected.. Still love the N9.. but FP1 was not too bad.., Positive user experience. Dont rate Symbian as Bad OS.. FM transmitter, HDMI out + some other extras… You will not find them anywhere else. And H**ker (Lumia) line will have “Pureview” lite.. I am done with Nokia, I am proud to own Nokias Last Genuine Phone.. The 808.. Some few M$ lovers are waiting for Pureview.. Its gonna be degraded version of Pureview Pro.. Enjoy what you will get before M$ will dismiss Nokia. Dream on M$ Lovers… Just speculation.. nothing more. Tnx Nokia for the last 20 Years, nothing but Nokia phones here.
