@TomWarren Shoots Down 41Mp Lumia; Mums the Word on 21Mp ;)

Tom Warren from the verge has been teasing us about info on a PureView Lumia for quite a while now, previously telling us to stay tuned on Sunday for more information. Well today is Sunday, yet nothing has appeared (in fact it’s been uncomfortably quiet on the leaks front); but according to Tom there was suppose to be a Lumia teaser (I assume it was PureView related) by Nokia today, but it got scrapped:

If anyone is wondering what the stay tuned meant I believe he was referring to the leak of the lumia 610s successor, the Lumia Glory. The way I see it (of course I’m reading into things a bit too much here) but Tom told us not to expect a 41Mp Lumia 920, well none of us were expecting that, but what about a 21 Mp Lumia 920? It’s worth it to give Tom a follow on Twitter, just in case something does “spill”

They’re creating a real suspense situation now.. I hope Nokia really lives up to every bit of the hype.. a 21 mp camera with PureView is good enough but the specs should be on par or better than competitors i hope..
It has to be better
Hopefully..
Cuz the specs are one of the main things that Nokia needs now to get back users that ran away to android or iphone..
Impressive specs and features with a pureview will do the killing..
so the lite pureview is on the 920 then? that means what, only the 920 and 820 get’s announced. 2 phones?
I know its not gonna happen but what if nokia throw us a s4 pro processor loaded lumia pureview then no one will even think about android coz we all know its all about specs these days.
Geez, another person says the camera is of 41.75MP resolution with a design that makes you wonder if the device has a PV camera.
no 41 mp on the lumia 920, but the lumia 1000 ……… wishful thinking
I’m expecting 16mp pureview minus xenon tbh
You’re probably right about it not having Xenon. That would be typical Nokia.
21MP PureView + Krait 2 + more than 1GB of RAM does satisfy me.
No such thing as a Krait 2.
I’m hoping for a tablet with3g-4g because Microsoft left the door open for that and I’m not seeing an RT announced with it.
I can’t think of a good reason to buy a Windows RT tablet before 2014, unless that deal with MS and B&N is that the next generation Nook Tablet will be a 7″ Windows RT system shipping for $250.
pureview is epic, 41,21,12 mp etc… we won’t complain,
but plz have a xenon…
I am expecting it more than 41 MP … Nokia shocked the world with the 41MP by launching the 808.. Now, they ll go big AGAIN!
Good luck with that
Thank you
41mp sure if its a single chip solution, you could even get the data present at once in java
..
Nokia doesn’t double up on stuff like that. They’ll sit on 41MP, not releasing another phone with that big of a sensor for at least 2 years.
You don’t throw in all your Goodies at once. Nokia needs something “BIG” for MWC 2013 and that could be a quad core powered 41MP (or even more!) Lumia.
Exactly what I’m thinking!
Not that I expected a 41MP sensor on WP8 in 2012, but I *do* expect PV, in some form, on WP8 in 2012
We’re just a few days away from the announcement…I’m looking forward to it.
I am sure I saw a slide on the developer conference/preview saying the SoC would be Snapdragon S4 plus (same as used in USA versions of HTC One X & Samsung S3).
In one of the queries posted at Purevieclub blogsite, Damian suggests various ways of implementing Pureview technology that isn’t limited by mpixels… And I suspect that this ‘new’ one will probably oversample by time.. that this one has a very fast sensor and can capture at more tham 30 frames per second.. Thus you get an effective clarity as the 41 mpix sensor with a 21 mpix or even a 12 mpix sensor by ‘blending’ many superfast sampled shots to one image! And this makes perfect sense for a PureMotion HD camera.. It should also add another feature with blur corrections for movies. Well, you can have low res slow mo or high res normal speed… Well, this is my guess from all the hints I’ve been reading..
I like the sound of this! Very interesting…
PureMotion is related to the screen/display they’ve devised, not the camera tech.
Thats just a form of bracketing,
two ways.
two shots right after each other (problem is movement)
Take one shot and process it thru different “filters” to remove noise. you could chuck a core at that to get “real time” processing .
Yes, it’s sort of like that I think. The problem of movement in the first way (two shots after each other) may be solved by ultrafast sampling–and thus movement within milliseconds would be hardly noticeable in a merge-averaged image resulting in what appears to be still a ‘pure’ image. In a way, this isn’t very different from the processing involved in PureView I think–because each pixel is in a different location in space, and so when they ‘merge’ pixels to form a high-res pixel, a sort of spatial averaging is done.
I think noise-filtering of a single shot (the second way) is the one that is limited by the size of the sensor. Ultimately, the best image will still be dependent on the available raw ‘data’ or else it’s just extrapolation.
In a PureView tech with a large sensor–zooming will be possible. However, in a “PureView” implementation with a fast sensor, slow motion is possible.
Gee, this sounds too technical but all I have is just a guess of how PureView might be possible with a small image sensor (eg, 21 mpix or 12 mpix) but hopefully not sacrificing ‘pure’ resolution. So, I think it is possible. We’ll find out soon enough…
That is actually interesting, would also be interesting if they could merge this with HDR.
21 MP? prepare to be disappointed again… I’m expecting the already mentioned n8-based camera, already promoted as “PureView Lite”…
Don’t be.. as this may have a very fast imaging sensor.. well, I should hope so. It should oversample by time if it cannot oversample by size. You get same effective clarity as the 41 mpix sensor plus allow slow mo movies.
I really hope (and believe) that Nokia has something special to show (not necessarily nor only in the camera department)… I’m just saying that the 21 mp is just a random fake number.
Nokia not delivering when they’re supposed to? are we really that surprised? lol
I’m not sure about that.
Most people are expecting 21MP camera phone from them and in the end people will want thinner phones. 808 simply isn’t mass market.
If only one or two phones beat it in imaging, who cares? Especially if one phone is 2 years old and another is a niche device.
Nokia needs to step up their hardware spec game if they want to win back Nokia fans that have already switched to the likes of Samsung and Apple. They need to go above and beyond to accomplish this and keep their current customers interested in their products. They’ve been playing catch up for too long now…too long.
Nokia has been leading in terms of the hardware innovations alongside with software to implement it.. eg Pureview, Rich Sound recording, Nokia maps, NFC… but playing catch up on the total user interface which Apple has clearly mastered (or at least well-marketed). Because they’re way ahead of the others in these technologies for a truly convergent device, Nokia should now focus on the latter because it’s the consumer “first impression on OS experience” that really sells. I suppose this is where WP8 might help.
OK, Nokia has never been leading in terms of Maps, Google was way ahead of them for a damn long time, and still is (at least for North America). NFC, I wouldn’t give them that either. Nokia’s NFC implementation is like their accelerometer implementation in the N95.
Well, that was expected.
Still, if it beats the N8, I’ll be impressed.
The thing is that if it’s the best camera phone out of anybody else, they have won. They just need big enough numbers to make the headlines, like 21MP.
Some might know N8 (but that’s 2 years old) and very little might know about 808.
21MP, thin, amazing screen and great design will finally bring Nokia the kind of winner we have been waiting for years. Though it’s just a start.
Maybe the new Lumia will has 100Mpix pureview + scalado tech hahaha
I can see the frowns of disenchantment, but we werent expecting 41mp were we?
Yes , 21mp is still on cards, and will be pretty good. It seems like the video aspect will be the biggest improvement, but if you want the still pictures advantage, the 808 is still the choice.
This clown is a “Verge” shill first and foremost. He is also a recent android convert, which pulls him down a few notches in my book.
I very much doubt that Nokia would deal directly with these idiots (the Verge team that is) right before a major launch.
He’s not a shill, you’ve got your own bias talking, so nobody cares where he sits in your book.
Look, in reality I’m expecting a 16mp camera sensor and PureView technology. This may sound a little disappointing at first, but I can guarantee it’ll still beat the pants off 99% of current smartphone cameras.
Nokia has some kind of surprise in stall
21mpx with the same sensor dimensions would be great but something tells me that won’t happen
Well can anyone clarify if Nokia introduces the graphene based sensor with the same size of the 808′s on a 21mp res will it be better than the 41mp of 808?
it will be better for low light situations (when not utilizing pureview but rather the full sensor mode)
Game over for Nokia if Lumia is not successfull…
Im just hoping that camera in this new phone will be better than in N8. Otherwise its not tempting to change it and I have to wait until there is one with better camera.
I would have bought 808 if it had been launched earlier like last winter but now I think its much too late in the game to buy a new symbian smartphone. So its better to stick with N8 until WP can offer better camera.
