Nokia Lumia 920 comes with super sensitive screen – works with gloves and mittens

As updated in this post, the Nokia Lumia 920 apparently has a super sensitive display that allows you to use your gloves/mittens (fear the resistive). I think it’s just a super sensitive capacitive display.

Is this a good thing? I’m not being negative, but sometimes, it’s annoying when it registers touch inputs when you don’t mean for it.. I’ll have to try it out to see if it’s fluid or oversensitive..

No real pure view, ok camera but no pure view ok hardware but microsoft brings nothing to the table… This is not good.

Sorry to say that but you have any idea of photography. The 920 PureView offers something the 808 Pureview cannot. The image stabilization adds a lot of value. If I compare my N8 to my Lumix LX3 (with mechanical image stabilization) in dim light then I end up with many blury pictures on the N8 and close to none on the LX3! Together with the F2.0 aperture (same as the LX3) you can expect better low light capabilities than the 808 because the 920 simply captures TWICE the light!

      • incognito says:

How did you come with twice the light? The 808PV has much larger sensor and F2.4 aperture, so by it’s own merits it captures far, far more light per given time. Sure, you can keep the aperture open for longer time when you have stabilization and thus capture more light, but it all depends on circumstances and it certainly doesn’t make it automatically ‘twice the light’.

        • toermel says:

Well, I was wrong in a sense that I thought the 808 had F2.8. But simply by jumping from F2.8 to F2.0 you get twice the amount of light on the sensor (per given time, yes).

Let’s wait for some true world pictures but in dim light I’ll predict a close fight between 808 and 920 (without using a tripod).

the lens is kept open for longer to let more light in. did you even watch the presentation and the samples?

How will one clean the screen with a rug if the capacitive field is so enlarged to detect through thick fabric? Let’s hope they at least use the proximity sensor to kill the sensitivity, otherwise carrying it in your pocket might unlock it and do some damage…

    • Jay Montano says:

Well, first you lock the phone. Is that too hard? That’s how I’ve been wiping every touch screen Nokia I’ve had. Lock screen, wipe.

If it had the double tap of n9 it might be more problematic but currently screen needs to be unlocked.

      • incognito says:

Right, forgot about that little detail… I noticed that on many occasions, unless you use a really thick rag, the N9 would unlock while wiping it.

It’s easy to get used to the good things, like double-tap-to-unlock, so you get to expect them everywhere, along with the nuisances those same features might create.

PureView is a tech that also has other techniques of Imaging not only based on OverSampling aka PixelBinning.

Epic fail, boring design of the device, no LED notification, :(
    What about battery life?

  10. taspao says:

    Disappointment!nokia 808 for ever!

  11. Bfrenz says:

Boring design like iPhone. No LED Notif in iPhone.
