Nokia N8, Asha 305, 311 and Nokia Lumia 920 top 10 GSM Arena daily interest.

| September 11, 2012 | 44 Replies

I don’t really follow the GSM Arena phone rankings much. I think the last time I mentioned it was because a reader said in the comments that the Asha 311 was there (at the time the only Nokia I think). The Asha 305 is there too.

That’s great stuff. Asha has been receiving a lot of praises and interest from consumers. It suits their budget and offers them a lot of smartphone-like features. From Nokia’s side, they’ve been great sellers.

The N8 is still there over 2 years later. The super camera that years later was still kicking new competition’s behind in the camera department.

But topping the list is the Nokia Lumia 920.

Is it because it’s new? Perhaps. Moto might like if it that was the case. The controversial handset? Or genuinely interesting because of it’s innovations?

Now let’s see if geeky consumer interest can see this phone achieve some sales (and continued sales for Asha too). I don’t recall if a Lumia had ever previously made it to this list. Perhaps it has. Again I don’t pay attention to this list. I know the N9 in its time was often in the top 10.

Hat tip to person who mentioned this in comments (apologies I can’t find it again to credit).

its a comeback handset for nokia,L920 FTW

    • Bosh says:

      +1.
Some members of my family which are non-techy have talked me about like “Have you seen the new Nokia? It has an amazing camera”.

      Nokia’s comeback FTW!!

      • ms.nokia says:

same here, friends that previously never talked about nokia are now excited about “that new yellow nokia phone” they dont call it lumia but they know about it,

        • Chris says:

Same here too. I was always the lonely Nokia guy in the office while the rest of my colleague either uses iphone or android. Suddenly the day after the launch everyone was talking about the Lumia 920.

Then a colleague of mine just came over and asked: “Hey what’s that phone? A Nokia? May I have a look at it? What’s this.. an N8? Nice built quality..”

My goodness this has never happened before for over 18 months of my N8 ownership.. Now whenever someone mention saving up for something, another person will ask “a lumia?”

Not too sure how many will actually get one, at least Nokia is part of the topic when they talk about phones again…

Nice to see that N8 is still number 7… but where is the 808…?

  3. Heron says:

I know I have been looking at all L920 news since its announcement. I wouldn’t get the phone just yet (waiting for wave 2 of Nokia’s WP8 push) but it’s interesting how Nokia have pushed a lot of innovation to a slightly hefty but good looking device.

The controversy is all that, but Nokia has got a good phone on its hands. Now whether the iPhone 5 will upstage the L920 is the question. Likely it will too, but we will see.

  4. Sonny says:

Actually the 808 PV had over 150 000 hits per day right after it was announced at MWC. so the 920 just scrapping is 71000 hits almost a weak after it was released is kinda sad! Hope it gets better.

    BTW N8 you a beauty!

    • Paul Grenfell says:

      Total hits:6,850,145 for 808..
Thats not bad .. for Nokias spurned and aborted child.

      • incognito says:

        Nokia N9
Total hits: 14,157,453 (#9 by interest of all time)
Total votes: 108,664 (#2 by rate, tho I’d take the rankings with a grain of salt, there is always-on fight in downranking the competition on the GSMArena)

Now that’s not bad for a completely aborted child with an OS/ecosystem that exists only on one phone. Not bad at all, with this progress it will overtake the iPhone 4 by interest within few short weeks.

Currently, there are 5 Nokia devices in the top 10 interest of all time – the N8 (the undisputed champion), 5800 XpressMusic, C3, N97 (a shame) and the N9. Not bad at all considering that GSMArena is probably the most visited mobile devices oriented site and their page will always be within the first 10 whenever you Google a device.

    • dss says:

the 808 almost brought gsmarena’s website down.. they had an article about it.

      http://www.gsmarena.com/d_dinning_interview_nokia_808-review-728.php

“We rarely do interviews but the Nokia 808 is a real whopper. The sheer hype it generated yesterday almost took our site down for a moment. ”

the iphone 5 might be the only other phone that can achieve that I think..

  5. fghdfg says:

People want to know what is cool about this phone. Stabilisation and yellow color. That’s it.

  6. Tech says:

Nokia L920 is realy nice cameback by Nokia :)

  7. gaurav says:

still nothing that can beat my n8

that i ve an e5 it is good

i have a galaxy note which doesnt exite me anymore

(i played with it for 2 weeks)

did i not remember the look on the face of my friend a iphone lover and working for a top tech company …..he just mumbled something about symbian …but didnt took out his iphone whole day

that at my place sometimes we dont get 3g signals

only E …and the browser on note and iphone having similar sim cards give no internet access

and n8 opens all the webpages IT IS TRUE AND VERY USEFUL AT PLACES WITH WEAK SIGNALS

that n8 now costs 18k rs much less than note and iphone and still comes with better camera and earphones

  8. sandy says:

If lumia 920 had microSD slot it could have been even bigger hit …

  9. Stinger430 says:

I visit that site everyday, and I WISH they would review the Asha 311. For my tastes I really like GSMArena’s reviews!

  10. anonymous says:

i’m always looking at that daily interest table… actually asha 305 is constant there even ranked 3rd or 2nd and then days after asha 311 was available in the market it also appear there, then the lumia 920, i think it was just today that it tops the list (except for the first few days of announcement and surprisingly i think 1-3days after the appearance of lumia 920, the N8 also appear… and i’m still waiting for the come back of purview 808 in the list…

  11. JGrove303 says:

The N8-00 Belle is a killer deal now a days. Competitor killing camera, comes with USB OTG and HDMI adaptor cables and a great set of wired headphones, all for a paultry $279 unbranded and unlocked in 5 different colors.

If you don’t need to access 5 outlook accounts or do devCal crap, you would be overlooking a great handset for day to day use by not checking out the N8

  12. FireDragon says:

I just had a long, an hour long argument with an iPhone 4 user + Samsung fan. Poor kid thought iOS was first OS for mobile and iPhone was first touch screen and that touch screen never existed before it.

My history lessons made his father asleep lol. And the guy must have changed his mindset now.

Most of it was about advertising or false advertising that Apple did. And on my return I saw this post about related topic I talked non-stop to poor kid.

  13. Tak says:

808 is in strange anti-marketing bonanza.

    • dss says:

      what do you mean ?

      • Tak says:

I mean, it is hidden. No adverts, nothing. It was held back, and phone shops kept even the mock ups hidden in locked drawers, systematically, when other phones had mock ups with prices available, ready to be sold. There fore even N8 is getting more interest.

Part of making profit is making the product seem more interesting than it is, like what Ms Nokia does with the Marketing Bonanza. 808 does not have bonanza, it does not have a single advert anywhere.

  14. pig_benis says:

its good news.. Its only just the beggining with wp8 with nokia. Expect more this 2013

    • Paul Grenfell says:

meantime thankfully , we have the awesome 808

      • dss says:

The 808′s campaign should have been “awesome everyday” .. better than amazing..

        • Paul Grenfell says:

Yep, strange how PV on WP8 is better then on 808, when its no comparison..2 different things, but its a WP, so thats that..
Nokia never intended to “market” the 808.. It was a child born out of Fornication. Unlike the Lumia silver spoon mob.
There may never be a phone as good as the PV 808 again.. Keep them as valuable Family Jewels.. I will..
