Update Available for Lumia 900
I’m not sure what this update brings, or what it’s called; but Zune is currently updating my Stormtrooper to the latest version of Windows Phone. As much as I’d like it to be I doubt this is WP 7.8 seeing as how it’s classified as a “Nokia Update” and not a Windows Phone Update, it’s most probably small bug fixes and what not. Stay tuned for more details (around ten minutes left on the update).
*note: this is NOT the tango update which we received a couple months back, check out the video here
Have you gotten the update on your 900 (or other WP device?) let us know.
Edit: As I suspected it’s a minor change confirmed by twitter user “@velmu” who provided the image below.

Update: My StormTrooper finished updating, as much as I’d love to imagine that it’s a lot smoother (not that it wasn’t smooth) I honestly can’t feel a difference, the version is as seen above 8779.12301 which appears to be an tiny change in number from the previous Tango version: 8779.12201 (I’d like to take this moment to once again curse WPs Update naming system).
Has anyone else noticed any improvements? If so do let us know.

you should check, maybe it allows you to now connect with the beta nokia suite? seeing as that doesn’t currently work.
I’d appreciate it anyone can report whether the inbuilt podcasting app works after this update.
Since Tango my Lumia 900 & 800 can no longer update podcasts unless connected to Zune on a PC (when all it does is sync with podcasts already subscribed to through Zone)
Strangely, my Lumia 710 still functions as intended.
Before Tango the app would automatically update & download podcasts. Those could then be pinned to home screen as a Live Tile for instant playback.
All very slick, and the most integrated and reliable podcasting system I’ve ever had, but sadly Missing In Action since Tango…
I can but hope! If anyone wants to give feedback I’d greatly appreciate it; many others have reported this, and I have yet to find anyone whose Lumia 900 or 800 podcasting still works post Tango.
The update is not there for me yet, so I look forward to hearing what (if any) benefits this update brings
Sadly the podcasting ability has not been fixed with the update. I was hoping for this also
What issue are you guys talking about? My Lumia 900 updates my podcasts just fine after tango. Can you please provide more details on the issue you’re having?
Thanks
There are a n umber of threads and discussions about this one:
It seems that, after Tango (which all Lumia 900′s came with, of course) the ability to use the native podcasting client is compromised:
The standard procedure is to first subscribe to a podcast RSS feed in Zune and then drag the podcast over to the ‘phone icon to transfer it to the device.
You then need to subscribe (a second time) to the podcast on the device; there should be a big button bottom right below the podcast details saying ‘subscribe’
from that point on, the device will automatically check the feed and download podcasts in the background when on WiFi (and in some cases only when connected to a power source). FWIW my first Lumia 800 brke all the rules and would (on occasions) update podcasts via 3G on the fly…
Tango seems to have broken that functionality for a lot of users (I think you’re the first to claim it’s working that I have come across!)
Podcasting can still work post Tango on some devices: some have reported that existing podcasts continue to update as normal.
The only way I can get my Lumia 900 to update podcasts is to connect it to Zune whereupon the pc (having downloaded the original podcast) will then sync a Zune-transcoded copy over to the device.
This is a real bind: I’m running the Windows 8 preview which does not allow automatic WiFi syncing, but even if it did, I’d have to leave the ’900 connected to power for at least 10 mins within range of my home WiFi to trigger this sync.
As it is, it’s faster to just plug the ’900 in to the pc, but there again its faster still to use a 3rd party podcasting client.
There are quite a few of these, but none are fully automatic (i.e. they will not auto-download podcasts in the background like the native podcasting will). Most are pretty ragged looking, slow, crash unexpectedly aand are not a pleasure to use.
None allow you to pin a podcast to the homescreen to allow one-click activation of a podcast, either – my favourite feature.
If your L900 can process newly-added podcasts and allows you to subscribe to and update them independent of the pc, please join the discussion(s): I think the best thread is over at WPCentral, but there are a number at the laughingly-titled Microsoft Answers as well
you can now search for apps… by the full name of the app.

Ya got the update, the phone (White Lumia 900) restarted and finally booted into MeeGo
I was surprised by the update too yesterday evening – I just hooked my cyan lumia 900 to the pc to sync some new podcasts, and suddenly Zune prompted me to update… Couldn’t find what’s in it in the supplied link though…

Saw this back on Wednesday. Just only managed to check on it’s support page and I saw this (link: http://www.nokia.com/my-en/support/product/lumia900/):
Latest software release for Nokia Lumia 900 is SW 2175.2503.8779.12301
Enhanced camera performance, including launching the camera while the phone is locked, better white balance and backlight exposure performance, and improved autofocus in close-up mode
Several photos and voice clips can be attached to multimedia messages
Enhancements to charging and startup when battery has completely drained
Usability and performance improvements
Speaking of which, I haven’t tried this on my sister’s L900 yet as I only managed to update it to the previous version last week as I was teaching her how to update her phone.
