Weekend Read: Nokia 808 vs iPhone 4S vs GSIII vs HTC OneX

| October 7, 2012 | 35 Replies

You may have had your fill of Nokia 808 PureView camera comparisons. All the major blogs have already crowned this as the undisputed camera king, both in direct and blind camera tests (to avoid bias) and the 808 proves itself as a performer. It really does produce super high quality images far superior to even several high end dedicated pocket digicams, let alone camera phones.

Introductions aside here’s another comparison post, with the iPhone 4S, SGSIII and HTC One X.

Is it me or do the 808′s pics look rather hazy for some reason? That’s not what we’ve seen before right?

Cheers Aymen for the tip!

  1. Well in the sample here, the iPhone destroys the 808, which doesn’t look any better than the S3 or One X !

  2. Louis says:

when compressed the iPhone’s pictures look euphoric.

just need a quick look at full-sized comparisons (I believe 8MP, can’t read arabic) and you’ll see 808 is still unmatched.

  3. kuarashi says:

    This is fake

  4. stylinred says:

well we all know how the 808 performs typically by now

so maybe he had some settings/device issues with his 808; having said that though when enlarged the 808 still looks better/less grainy

  5. hotnikkelz says:

ok Jay we get it. n8 and 808 have the best phone cameras on any phone :) Everything else though…well I guess you can guess where I’m heading ;)

    • dss says:

Where are you headed ? I have an iphone 5 and an 808, and I can use both as a main smartphone, no problem.. in fact, the 808 does some things better than the iphone.

    • yourmama says:

Everything else for you??? Yeah I see where you’re heading. Bear in mind not everyone’s following :)

  6. burak says:

    abbey road

  7. Maybe says:

The pic does not have the quality of 808 at all…
the pic have the same details as the others…

  8. Munir says:

If I need to take good pictures, I’ll buy a camera not a phone.
If I need a good phone, I’ll buy a SGS3! You guys can tell whatever you want, but truth is SGS3 it’s they best smartphone outhere.

    • yourmama says:

Yes, yes..you’re THE MAN..smarter then the rest..NOT!!! Get over yourself.

    • Dave says:

Strange …. how very strange. You’re ignoring all the facts.

The 808 is better at being a camera than probably 99% of dedicated compacts.

And as for the SGS3 being the best smartphone out there, that entirely depends on your criteria. If you like having something fragile that doesn’t do anything innovative, then the SGS3 is clearly the best.

    • FireDragon says:

What if you want to have both good picture and a phone, or better, a smartphone? What than? Now get over it or get that concept of camera phone in your thick skull before your mind stop getting oxygen.

    • shallow ocean shoal says:

Manure, when you take “good” pictures, do you use film or a digital camera?

When I need a “good” phone that I can trust, I use a landline.

When I need a “good” cellular phone that I can trust, I use a Nokia.

      When I need a good beer…

    • JGrove303 says:

Buildond a phone with glass to the edges and flimsy plastic frame and battery cover is not smart. Putting a sub par imaging sensor and sub par mics in a flagship device is not smart. Not allowing mass storage mode on any NAND or microSD equipped device is not smart.

Coming onto a Nokia fan blog to promote a really fast POS using an OS built solely with the intent to develop advertising revenue is not smart.

  9. trad says:

    hi all :)

i was one of the group that made the test ( http://www.arabjpg.com/?p=3133 )
in the above picture the iPhone 4S has more saturated result but Nokia is more close to reality.

  10. Munir says:

That song is old. Since lumia 800 you guys are singing the same thing. For your deception you’ll see one of these galaxy’s win again on February’s WMC. I forgive you for these shame words like ‘ugly’, ‘cheap’ and ‘copycat’ just because you don’t have more arguments and you know that Samsung is number 1, no matter what you say.

    • v.s.i says:

Number 1 in what? For some people it’s design and uniqueness that really matters (example: WP, webOS, MeeGo). For others it’s the camera. For others it’s the customization (ex: Android). For others yet ease of use and familiarity (ex: iPhone, Symbian).
There should be an option for everyone and no such thing as the ‘perfect phone for everyone’ or ‘Number 1′.
P.S. Don’t you agree a day will come when, like Nokia, Samsung won’t be the first phone manufacturer by volume any more?

  11. Munir says:

Don’t tell me… Samsung is unique on it’s own way! And you have to agree that the jury who decides which phone is the best think in all these points mention by you. I agree that the day will come when Samsung no longer will be number one. My friend, I like Nokia more than I like Samsung. I don’t read news in any Samsung blog, but everyday, several times I open MNB to read the news.

    • anonymous says:

While I personally can’t sense anything unique about the Korean brand, apart from their creditable silicon HW department (memory chips, CPUs, AMOLEDs), what sites you’re visiting or not does not concern me more than trolling at MNB.
Also, I don’t need anyone to decide what is best for me as long as I have a functional mind and a pair of eyes and ears. Cheers! :)

    • yourmama says:

Yeah well the jury also decided Jethro Tull is more metal than Metallica. I for one could not care less what the jury decides. What’s best for the jury is for the jury, not for me. Comments like yours are boring, childish, not to mention clueless. Get a clue, get a life, be happy with what’s best for you, do not presume to dictate what’s best for everyone else :)

    • shallow ocean shoal says:

We all agree Samsung does a great job copying others!

  12. Allawi says:

iPhone 4S is way better. What’s going on.

    • torcida says:

      No way.. Don’t worry

    • Matt says:

This must be fake. I love my 4s, and it has great phone camera, but I just had to take a photo of my daughters(they were sleeping in funny manner, the other was lying in wrong way and other was side ways in both of their beds) almost complete darkness, and after trying to get light in the room and still getting uselessly noisy pictures, I gave up and picked my wifes 808 and presto, super sharp picture taken out from almost pitch black. I have gotten used to 808 constantly giving stunning results, but I still get stunned every day. Its a real camera! In fact better than our “high end pocket cameras”.

  13. Is that Khobar?! The Water Tower at the Corniche? Man I miss KSA so bad! :D

  14. Pica pica says:

They should have cleaned up the lenses before taking pictures. Having finger prints on your lens pretty much destroys the blacks, the contrast and the detail with the haze it produces, like what has happened here. Especially to Galaxy 3 and 808. One can make even Canon 5D Mark III look bad by smearing its lens. It’s the oldest trick in the book to make camera look bad, along with shaking the camera and not focusing it right.

Why did this sad incompetent comparison got even posted here at MNB?!?
