Nokia and tech giants talk on ending patent wars (+MS sues Google directly?)
HuffPo reports that Nokia, along with MS, Sammy, Google, Apple, Orange, Panasonic, Phillips, RIM and Qualcomm (and possible others) are meeting to sort the kerfuffle of Patents. Whether they hinder or promote innovation, there are several issues around the patent system that needs resolving.
The discussions will apparently focus on:
reducing the tensions between the standard, patent and competition law systems

Whilst we’re here, Engadget reports that Microsoft sued Google directly now over Android instead of via a Google Partner.

The biggest cry baby in this meeting will be Apple non-the-less. They always use patents to stave off competition and not for just infringements purposes as they make it out to be. To their benefit the only ethical court battle they had was against Sammys copy-and-pasting.
Hopefully this meet-up shows some good benefits and resolves this headache once and for all for the better of innovation and to the benefit of the consumer.
My guess is on Google being the crybaby here. Kind of like a car thief arguing for auto theft legislation reform.
Nah, there’s really stupid stuff getting patented.
Yeah but that’s not what this is about.
I recommend reading Nokias argument against changing regulations regarding Standard Essential -patents.
P.S.
This all seems to me, to be companies, who are not investing in R&D to get those standard essential patents, wanting to use those patents for free.
P.P.S
This is not about the ridiculousness of patenting slide-to-unlock, or rows of icons, which is imo the real threat against all software innovation and competition.
IT WONT HAPPEN…cause the US is too Gunghoe over patents and the patent system is broken in favour of the USA since it’s regulated by the FCC and the FCC and run by USA -___- jeeze why do you not to homework to look behind this BS
Very good news “if” it’s genuine, extremely sceptical that they’d all work something out though.
If MS goes after google, they are in trouble.. I was expecting something like that to happen, they can’t hide behind “open source” forever.
My mother happened to be watching Home and Away (true story) and I saw one of the river boys using an N8
