Xbox Live Update coming soon – Smartglass for Nokia Lumia imminent?
Just got the routine email from Xbox Live that their autumn update is coming soon. There’s updates on search, in particular voice search for TV shows, music and games when using kinect as well as ‘Pinning’. The main cool thing coming is support for Xbox SmartGlass – the enhanced XboxLive companion App for your Nokia Lumia (and other smartphones) and tablets. Think Wii U perhaps but without the need for an extra controller, just existing phones/tablets.
Dear JayMontanoZ,
An Xbox LIVE service update is coming soon. The system update will include several new features to enhance your search experience, making it easier to find the content you’re looking for on Xbox LIVE.
Search refinements – The update will allow you to search for content by category or genre, and then filter your results into a number of subcategories.
Recommendations and Pinning – Find new favourites with personalised recommendations on games and videos in Dash.
Voice Search* – Use your voice to easily search for movies, TV shows, music and games with your Kinect for Xbox 360.
Also coming soon:
Internet Explorer** – Extend your Xbox experience and surf the web safely and securely with Internet Explorer.
Xbox SmartGlass† – Control entertainment on your console with the new Xbox SmartGlass app. Once downloaded, you will be able to use your smartphone or tablet as a companion device for an enhanced game and entertainment experience.
Look out for these updates coming soon to your console.

I am so up for this app.
I’ve been far to lazy to look into what smart glass was. If you can use your Lumia as a controller, cool. If just does what the Gameboy Advance to GameCube connectivity did ( add minor display of information during game ) don’t expect it to get much use.
I it’s that, and also think it’s supposed to be like you’re watching some video on your phone, and then you put your finger on it and fling it over to your tv w/xbox and continue watching it

What Xbox SmartGlass will actually be:
Ugh, the VMUs. $40 a pop, you had tohave them to save games and they ate those 2032 watch batteries like a roll of Sprees. Killed the Dreamcast, second to zero encryption on the games. RIP Sega consoles.
But then I guess it’s up to devs to do what they will. Being as how you can write in XBLA for WP8 and XBox 360, there could be great cross platform content ala PS3 and PS Vita.
Cave Iteractive Co. LTD., opertunity is knocking!
I know. The Visual Memory was the start of a good idea, but their storage capacity was rubbish at just 128KB, so you had to have several when really you only needed one unit with a screen/controls/speaker/processor that must have bumped the price up. Plus the lids would become loose and go missing.
If Sega had tried again with rechargeable versions with lit screens that could accept flash memory upgrades then they could have been onto something. But at the time this would probably have too expensive to do.
Kinda funny you brought it, as the Dreamcast ran on Windows CE, as WP7 did
Seriously?! I had no idea. Always respected the Dreamcast, but never had one. I had a Jaguar.
I too had an Atari Jaguar 64! Got it launch day amd played the hell out of Cybermorph, Raiden, Bugsy and the best version of Rayman. Alien vs. Predator I probably played the most. Got the Jaguar CD as soon as it came out too. Primal Rage, Battlemorph and Iron Soldier II all day long.
My dad was and still is an Atari nut so getting the Catbox, pro controllers, etc. and buying everything we could when Atari folded in ’96 wasn’t an issue.
We still have my entire cache of Jaguar and Lynx goodies, along with my Sega Saturn, Dreamcast (both I got well after they hit EOL), PSP, PS2, GBA SP and a Gameboy Color. Had a Wii and Xbox 360, but extenuating circumstances made me give those up. But i’kl get an other 360 with my purchase of my Lumia 920. So I guess I’ll check out this Smartglass for my self!
Wow, the Catbox, that makes finding international Nokia accessories look easy! Never got it, but did have a rotary controller for Tempest 2000, a couple copies of Battlemorph, and JUGGS, which I always meant to do something with and never did…
I still have my Nuon hooked up to the tv even though I never use it, haha!!
Haha, did I say Battlemorph? I mean BattleSphere!
BattleSphere was cool, would have been A LOT more fun with friends hooked up. I think I played iWar more.
I didn’t know what a nuon was until now. Didn’t know there was a Tempest 3000!
Although, I do own Iron Soldier III for Playstation.
WILD
the only reason that i will get a Windows Lumia is due to the xbox integration. This is a good start!
