Nokia India teases existence of Nokia Lumia 510, says it’s coming soon!

| October 21, 2012 | 26 Replies

The Nokia Lumia 510 which has been leaked in photos, videos and even sample pictures is confirmed by Nokia India who said on their facebook:

610 – 100 = ?

Stay tuned. Coming soon.

The 510 has some surprising specs for a budget/entry level smartphone, with a larger 4″ display than that found in the 610/710/800.

Thanks Manu for the tip!

Excellent – perhaps first week of November like some said he heard! And hopefully a quick release too!

Unfortunately I think the 4″ display was chosen because it is actually cheaper than the 3.7″ screen of the 610… It’s possible because a small difference in screen size at the same resolution is not very important for the price, whereas the screen tech is. The 610 already has a very basic 16-bit TN TFT screen, but I suppose Nokia has found an even less expensive display model.

I personally would rather use a lower resolution but higher quality display. For example the Nokia 500 has a real 24-bit display (at nHD resolution) despite being a budget phone. Unfortunately the minimum specs of WP7 do not allow that; with WVGA Nokia is forced to go with the cheapest possible display they can find.

It’s not necessarily that it’s worse, more that as time goes by, tech gets better. After a certain point smaller hard drives end up costing more. It could be the same with screens. If it’s easy to make a 4″ screen, there’s a lot of them to buy, so cheaper price due to the volume.

yes exactly. a 4 inch screen is cheaper now than last year, so are the components. if they release this now with these specs, than the next 610 will probably come with the specs of the lumia 710 plus 4 inch screen at the same price as last year.it’s good. and in this rate by 2014 they will be able to provide a 510 type of device at asha price level

I have already commented regarding the lumia 510…one more thing nokia is working on a phone based on wp,that will cost under 7k indian rupees and will be coming q1 2013.:-)

    • Janne says:

That would be in line with the sacking of Meltemi and related news, which included the promise that Lumia would go even further down than expected (Lumia 510 was already expected). Nokia Lumia 350? 505?

As for the Lumia 510, they need it on the market soon to sell that 10 million in Q4… ;) (Kidding.)

      • Marc Aurel says:

I wonder what compromises they will have to do for that… The 510 already seems pretty stripped down with its 4 GB of internal memory. The difference between 4 and 8 GB in cost is quite small, so the hunt for a lower BOM must have been really desperate. Or perhaps WP8 will enable resolutions below WVGA after all, which would be a long step towards more affordable WP phones.

      Wow!! GREAT GREAT GREAT news!

  4. manu says:

4Gb memory without sd card card expansion is also a problem.
Hope it will cost under 10k inr.

    • Marc Aurel says:

Probably it will, since otherwise there wouldn’t be much sense in launching a new model besides the 610.

    • muhs says:

actually, the sony xperia u and samsung omnia m has 4gb.
maybe the samsung was a failure but the xperia u is not as it is taggad with the right price. i think lumia 510 will be priced right

  5. Rat Kutti says:

if the rumours are right, its priced at $150 which means around 8k INR… Then that’d be a real run for its money on the Samsung Galaxy Y and chat on devices which are currently ruling the low end segments in india more that the Asha’s do… And it’ll even be a big boost to take the wp range out to the masses : way to go Nokia

  6. krishna6233 says:

they deltd the status update !!!!!!

  7. sonu says:

Instead I will buy either asha 311 or nokia 500 or nokia 603 ; But not this dumbass phone

  8. sonu says:

After 2013 summer Nokia is going to spilt for surviving itself. THE RATE AT WHICH LUMIAS ARE SELLING GOD KNOWS NOKIA WILL EXIST OR WILL BECOME BICYCLE TYRE COMPANY.
