Nokia Care Centers Flashing First Gen Lumias With WP 7.8
After the initial rollout of Windows Phone 7.8 to some devices, which then were clarified to be “developer devices” there is no sign of when Windows Phone 7.8 will be available to the masses. However if you’re itching to get your hands on the fabulous new start screen and some of the other goodies packed in you can try your luck at your local Nokia Care center, as we’re hearing reports that Care centers in Lebanon, India and some Gulf countries (Dubai mainly) are flashing Windows Phone 7.8 onto customers devices upon request.
*I would try my luck at my local care center, but unfortunately the first gen Lumias (as well as the WP8 ones) have never been officially on sale here; so I doubt the care center would be any help :/.

yes, i have updated my lumia 710 to 7.8 version , on nokia care center in india
To update your Lumia to 7.8 you need to download the firmware through the official Nokia Care Suite, then plug the phone, (rename some files if you are installing a rom made for another product code), and refurbish the phone. It doesn’t matter if they were selling the phone or not. You can do it yourself too. If you want to, you can check out this guide which I used myself and it was a success.

Well.. I updated my 610 to 7.8 and wat i observed was that the opening of any apps took a milli seconds more time than 7.5.. And i thought i would be able to use the bluetooth to any device but guess its only for lumia to lumias..:-(
well i just transferred files from my lumia 710 to pureview 808 and vice-versa.
I can confirm that Care Points in Finland are also flashing Lumia WP 7.5 devices with WP 7.8. The other question is, though that are you willing to wait 1,5 weeks and prepared for a full wipe of the device…
check around the corner of the Flagship store in Helsinki for a small repair shop that can help you out with WP7.8.
