Spotify Finally Hits WP8 Marketplace; Beta Branding in Town

| February 8, 2013 | 14 Replies

Spotify has been one of those big apps inexcusably missing from the WP8 store, made even less excusable by the fact that it’s available to WP7.X devices. Well all you Spotify fans can rest easy seeing how the app has finally hit the WP8 marketplace in Beta mode.

The popular music-streaming app Spotify is now available for Windows Phone 8. Spotify (Beta, Version 2.0, Free to download, subscription required to play music after trial) lets you choose the music you love, or discover new songs and artists. You can play your own playlist or browse and indulge in the playlists of your friends. Heading offline? Download and play your playlists on-the-go. With Spotify on Windows Phone 8, you don’t have to miss a beat. Get it now in the Windows Phone Store!”

Features listed of the Windows Phone 8 version include:

  • Search, browse & play millions of tracks.

  • Explore & play your friends’ playlists, top artists and tracks.

  • Stream over WiFi or 2.5/3G – all your existing playlists are available.

  • Offline playlists – play your music without an internet connection.

  • On-the-fly sync – every track you add to a playlist appears on mobile and computer.

  • What’s New view.

  • Receive music from friends via the inbox.

  • Starred tracks – tag all your favourites into a special list.

Hurrrray :) I saw someone retweet me (cos our blogposts get autotweeted) and was confused. Then elated :p I zoned out whilst walking home with friends, too busy downloading it.

Checks out fine on Lumia 920, i just tested it.

It’s alot faster than the app for WP 7.8

Glad to see an app that is so popular with so many ppl across platforms is finally on our beloved WP8 devices. It looks fitting, too.

Out of curiosity, what features is Nokia Music + missing versus Spotify, other than ads and the fact that Nokia Music + is only on Nokia’s?

I am not particularly partial to Pandora or Spotify on my PC, I find its insistence and bandwidth hogging particularly annoying

Great news. Platform now just needs Instagram (which l don’t use) to silence the critics.

Have been trialing Xbox music unlimited streaming service, like it a lot (especially good if you also have PCs, Xbox etc). At this stage won’t need Spotify, but great option to have.

      Instagram is really nice.

Symbian didn’t have that and some old school Nokia fans didn’t even think that was a problem. Now how ignorant is that?

It’s great to see that WP is starting to get some real application support.
