Portico Update For WP Also Brings Enhanced Social Network Notifications View
After playing with my new 620 for a while I as getting the feeling that something was just “off”; there was something new in it that I couldn’t put my finger on. That was until I powered on my 920 and checked for notifications; one apparent change in Portico on WP8 is that it brings a more detailed view of notifications to your device; rather than just informing you of a new tweet/status update.

- Portico brings more detailed notifications in Me tile | debexpert | February 21, 2013

You better hide your IMEI number.
NO, Microsoft, this does not count as a notification center. What users meant was a *separate* and more detailed ‘hub’ for any app to post notifications to (why not a pane left of the tiles?). Now quit being lazy and get down to some real work!!
They should implement an idea from MeeGo.. Swipe to the left and the list of Apps appear (which already does on WP8), and Swipe to the right and a notification center appears (similar to MeeGo’s or something)..
Somebody is too busy tweeting on an Android. Leave him alone.
I disagree there. If Nokia has some sort of patent on that UI feature, they should implement it and use it as a differentiating feature. If WP will start to fly, they need every help they can get against Samsung.
Why do you think that UI features that are solely available on a Nokia device could help them?
Are people buying Androids made by Samsung and avoiding HTC/Sony/Motorola because of their differentiated UI?
Nokia should differentiate but not on the cost of fragmentation of the UI/UX. Luckily Nokia knows that and Microsoft would never allow it.
For Nokia to have any chance, they need to work together with MS more than they already are (and really, MS seems to be holding out too, as transit data MS has for Bing Maps isn’t available on Here).
THEY CAN AND WILL , LIKE WINDOWS 8 LIKE, NOT MEEGO LIKE WITH GESTURES THAT WILL BE THE WINDOWS PHONE BLUE.
IF THEY WERE LAZY HOW COME THEY ARE WORKING ON TWO VERSIONS OF THE WINDOWS PHONE 8 PLATFORM. SO SHUT UP DO YOU WORK FOR MICROSOFT, DO YOU KNOW HOW THE EMPLOYEES WORK IN THE WINDOWS PHONE DIVISION, NO. SO SHUT UP
I got this is version on my 920 Red out if the box (India)
But still i wish there was more to the notifications,
Lock screen should have watsapp integration! Or like wise……a dedicated phone notification Centre absolutely like Android (in terms of utility) must be updated!
We are taking about the most innovative smart phone! And we still look and compare with Android for the have nots! Jelly bean is serious stuff don’t know when n how wp8x would fare up
OS version (typo)
JELLYBEAN HAVE WHAT INNOVATIVE FEAURES, ERR NO. NOKIA HAS INNOVATING ON NOKIA LUMIAS WP DEVICES. NOT ANDROID MATE.
And how come a 1280×768 display displays the same amount of information as a 800×480 one? Shouldn’t something be made so that higher-res panels (as in, 2012 high-end, forget about 1080p) actually show more than a state-of-the-2010s one?
The same reason a 34″ 720p TV does not display more of the scene than a 34″ 1080p TV ? Just at a higher resolution.
Slightly off-topic, but how long has the portico update been live in finland? Just manually checked the updates and there it was!
Came out today.
So Wp8 finally got something that should have been in wp7 from day one? Wp7s Me Hub is pretty much useless because of that notifications that show no content at all
There’s a difference between not showing any content at all and showing more detail, which is what the update did. The WP7 Me Hub is NOT useless. It’s not perfect (It needs to bring in other 3rd party notifications too), but it does show you a quick view of any social network notification you get. You can always tap on the notification to see the full detail. You’re making it sound as if the WP7 Me Hub gives you no information at all. It does. You just have to tap on the notification to get more detail.
That being said, I still think WP needs a full notification center accessible from anywhere.
THEY WILL HAVE A NOFICATION CENTER, IT WILL BE PART OF PORTICO+ UPDATEC COMING Q2 SO THAT IS SPRING/MID SUMMER LAUNCH WITH ALL THE MISSING FEATURES THAT DIDNT MAKE THE CUT FOR WINDOWS PHONE 8 AND WINDOWS BLUE WILL HAVE MAJOR IMPROVEMENT AND FEATURES AND IT WILL COME OUT Q4, SO OCTOBER/NOVEMBER LAUNCH RELEASE.
Portico update finally available in New Zealand. Downloading now!
Finally available in indonesia, download now
Indonesia, you say? Then I can safely assume that it is available in Malaysia. Will do a search on my 920 later to see if it is there or not.
I noticed that Portico is now available in Finland.
Got Portico on my 820 last night.
hello there

By the way, personally I don’t consider Nokia’s first Lumia generation any kind of design triumph. The transition shows and N9 looks better than Lumia 800/900, Nokia 603 looks better than Lumia 710. However, Lumia 920 and 620 in my opinion look better than any of these. Lumia 820 also has some nice variants that stand on their own design merits. As do the accessories. So, Nokia is getting back into full swing! Great!
Sorry, that was supposed to go to the design thread…
Still waiting for Portico on my Verizon 822
they are truly slow!
I guess one good takeaway is that with WP8 MS has finally gotten around the carriers. There’s no way on WP7 you wold have had people from 3 deffkrent regions reporting that it was available for download.
If this sticks, Windows Phone will finally have the best of both Android (not breaking your system wmth an update like iOS) and iOS (getting updates in a timely fashion for all devices) in one.
