Lumiappdates: Microsoft keeps YouTube app, updates it – Refocus also updated

| May 23, 2013 | 3 Replies

Though they were asked to remove their YouTube app for breaking Google’s terms and conditions, it seems Microsoft are going to keep the app by possibly updating it to follow YouTube’s rules. I don’t think the download option is there anymore (not that I used it at the time to recall where it would be). Regarding the missing ad playback, I believe that’s more to do with getting access to YouTube’s API which google has not provided MS.

The Refocus app has also been updated. 1.0.50

  • Fixes a crash on devices that did not support camera flash
  • fixed a crash that happened when opening from previously unsaved images

(I think it was nice of the app to point out what got updated when you opened it)

I don’t want to update YouTube before I know what they changed. Did someone update? What’s new? I’m happy with the old version and no ads.

Removed download functionality. It was going to go anyway. Clearly it was included with a concession in mind. MS is handling this brilliantly. Google PR is stumbling

Well, at least we can still fall back to the ‘old-fashioned’ way of downloading Youtube videos via any streaming video add-on on firefox in Windows. :p
