GSM Arena: Nokia Lumia 1020 camera in a class of its own, no other high end smartphone camera comes close

Someone commented that the Nokia Lumia 1020 was apparently branded by GSM Arena as having the same image quality as a SGSIV.

So when I went to check it out, I was pleased to see this wasn’t the case.

As far as image quality is concerned, the Nokia Lumia 1020 is really in a class of its own. None of the other high-end smartphones can come even close to the amount of resolved detail that the huge pixel-dense sensor and the 6-element ZEISS lens deliver. The dynamic range is also much higher than any other flagship can offer. At full resolution (38 MP or 34MP) the noise levels are comparable to those of the 13MP Galaxy S4, which is a pretty great achievement given how much more detail you get

GSM Arena is slightly concerned about the more punchy colours and say the 808 produced more natural colours (possibly due to the charge of Damian Dinning wanting the Pure in PureView 🙂 ). Whilst camera comparisons by GSM Arena did favour natural colours, it wasn’t always the case, with many liking the saturation in the iPhone (hence why the Lumia WP8s have gone that way, if a little too much. Hopefully it’s not as out there and Nokia might perhaps give at least two options. Natural and Vivid, with the latter being default)
