Here’s another very well written review of the Nokia Lumia 1020, this time from Engadget. It goes really far into explaining how the camera technology in the 1020 works, and I’m rather impressed with the effort that Brad Molen put into this piece. Props. Knowing everything inside, Brad says that it “undoubtedly has a lot of you drooling”. But that’s on paper. How is it in action?  Unless you’ve missed the avalanche of praises appearing from earlier reviews, you have nothing to worry about.

Nokia has a lengthy history of backing up its boastful imaging claims, and fortunately that reputation continues with the 1020. Simply put, the camera is stunning.

  • Nokia Pro – arguably one of the best imaging apps on ANY platform.

Some doubted Elop’s claims yesterday about the performance of the 1020 against the 808, but the reviewers here seem to be in agreement.

Images taken in the dark turned out with more light, more detail and less noise than the HTC One and 808

We’ve been waiting a long time for the 808 PureView to get a Windows Phone counterpart with the same (if not better) imaging prowess. Finally, it’s here.

Comparing against the 808 is great, but most users unfortunately won’t know the 808 ever existed. We need to let them know that the Nokia Lumia 1020, that will soon be available to them (it is already in the US for pre-order, arriving to some customers tomorrow) that this is the best smartphone camera ever.

The detail..mmm

  • The lossless zoom on the 1020 completely blew us away; we could legibly see signs from a distance of over 100 yards, and we were able to zoom in on faces of people who were barely noticeable in the original image. We were also very impressed by the vast amount of detail in every shot. As you can imagine, there’s a lot to love.

Brad tweeted that this was his favourite shot. 🙂 This is just a screenshot. Image here
