The Twitter for WP8 app just received a pretty cool update that allows you to set the lockscreen image as tweets from your timeline that carry images. The image seems to be the most recent tweet, and only utilizes the top half of the screen as seen above. It’s a nifty way to get your social fix if you’re an addict, but for me there’s no beating Photostream + Weather updates.

According to the Microsoft blog the rest of the changes are as follows:

Good news to all you tweet-happy folk: A new Twitter update on Tuesday adds more options for your backdrop, so you can choose between a dark or light theme. But the changes are more than just skin deep. You can now select your favorite Twitter accounts and receive notifications when they tweet. You can also pin keyword searches to your home screen for quick access to tweets on a topic.

Your Twitter account will always be up-to-date with direct message syncing – read a message on your Windows Phone and it’s marked as already read on your Windows PC. Another bonus: Set your language preference and get tweets translated in your timeline – with support for 13 additional languages.
