Hello MNB Readers!

Another day and another round of information concerning the Windows Phone 8.1 update that will be available in the coming months. This time, we have a video of the new gesture based (similar to Swype) keyboard that is reportedly a part of Windows Phone 8.1.

From the CNET article:

Swype, the much-ballyhooed virtual keyboard technology that allows users to run their fingers around the keys to type out messages, might soon have a competitor on Windows Phone 8.1.

Microsoft is planning to offer a Swype-like technology in Windows Phone 8.1, The Verge reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the company’s plans. A video was posted by UnleashThePhones purporting to show the technology in action.

From The Verge article:

It appears to be very similar to Google’s updated Android keyboard. The video shows how words can be picked by swiping over keyboard letters, and how emoticons are suggested when words like “happy” are used. Windows Phone 8.1’s new swipe keyboard can be enabled or disabled with a “type as I flick through letters” setting, and “suggest emoticons” is also an option too. Microsoft is expected to release the final version of Windows Phone 8.1 to developers in early April.

I am looking forward to using a gesture based keyboard on Windows Phone as it can make one-handed typing a lot easier. Do you all use Swype or a “Swype style” keyboard on your current device such as a Symbian, Android or Blackberry device? What are your opinions of this type of text input? If you have used it in the past, do you miss using a Swype style keyboard if you currently own a Windows Phone device?  We would love to read your comments on this type of input and what you think of the Windows Phone 8.1 update thus far.

What I would like to know is how can I get my hands on Windows Phone 8.1 well in advance of the Developer Preview that is due in April…. 🙂

As always, thank you for visiting MyNokiaBlog!

Sincerely,

Deaconclgi
