Hi MNB friends,

Major apologies for the downtime yesterday. I’m not sure what happened, the site was unusable with error 503 and then Error 403 as the host tried to help us out. Many thanks to those we consulted online and those that offered help and support in whatever way they could. Fingers crossed things are ok today.

We just really want to share Nokia related news.

As a temporary measure, news items were shared directly on facebook to their sources and eventually we posted on a temporary placeholder.

As a recap of yesterdays events, @evleaks leaked the 930 just before announcement followed by news on WP8.1 and the new phones announced by Stephen Elop.

What’s new with WP8.1?

  • Action center with quick shortcuts that are customizable
  • New losckscreen APIs that are fully customizable by developers
  • Ability to “show more tiles” (like Windows 8) = 3 columns
  • Live tile backgrounds
  • Cortana, the live assistant that has absorbed the full internet.
  • VPN Support
  • Updated calendar view, with weekly view and swiping between days
  • WiFi Sense
  • In phone call switching to videos
  • Wordflow keyboard

Universal apps that work across the platform from phone to PC to tablet. One payment one app possible.

WP is free for all manufacturers and Windows Free for devices less than 9 inches.

As predicted by some, the next Nokia update is an iconically named, Nokia Cyan. Cyan being the popularised colour of one of Nokias hero phones, the Nokia n9.

And of course, new phones, Nokia Lumia 930 (ICON international) and 630/635. The latter featuring no buttons, no camera buttons.

Some videos for you. Promo with the 8.1 and Adam Giles as well as handset videos for the 930 and 630.
