BBC iPlayer gets major update on Windows Phone 8, Live TV, adaptive bitrate and more

  • overhauled the viewing experience, switching to an adaptive bitrate media player. So everyone can watch, even if you have low bandwidth. It’ll just have higher quality when it’s available.
  • Subtitles
  • Live TV
  • More stable
  • More Windows Phone availability
  • Download option would come if WP gets bigger marketshare “We would love to add features like downloads once the market share increases to the point we can justify the additional development and infrastructure costs.”
  • Radio no longer available so BBC can focus on the TV. There may be a separate app coming.
