Today at IFA in Berlin, Germany, Microsoft has taken to the stage to announce the newest addition to the software portfolio, Lumia Denim. Lumia Denim, just like Amber, Black and Cyan, brings the benefits of Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1, along with some added extras.

Lumia Denim brings with it a “Hey Cortana” hot-word to activate Cortana without the need for actually touch your device. Besides this, camera improvements have been made to improve capture speeds, noticeably “pocket-to-picture” which allows you to unlock the device and enter the camera straight away. The next is the ability to capture 4K video (24fps @ 8.3MP per frame), simply by holding the physical shutter key when the Camera UI is displayed.

In addition to the features of Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1, here is more of what Lumia Denim will bring;

  •  Rich Capture – Auto HDR and Dynamic Flash are now welcomed into the already-impressive feature set. Shoot first and adjust the camera settings later for that perfect photo.
  •  Improved image processing algorithms – Updated to give you clearer photos, even in lowlight.
  • “Hey Cortana” Voice Activation – Gone are the days of pressing the microphone button to wake-up Cortana. Simply say “Hey Cortana” while the phone is idle and Cortana will activate.This is possible thanks to theSensorCore technology.
  • Glance Screen – Compatible Lumia devices can now show more at a glance with Bing Weather, or Bing Health & Fitness data, in addition to time and date, notifications and application data.

Denim will be coming on the Lumia 930, 1520 and Icon initially, with others coming in Q4 2014. The new Lumia Camera app will be coming in Q4 2014 also.
