The Microsoft Lumia channel has uploaded this #MakeItHappen teaser.

Apparently this experience with binaural sound was recorded on the Lumia 930. Binaural isn’t simple stereo or surround sound, but recorded in a way that during playback, it feels as if you’re there (best heard on headphones).

This can kind of be done by setting up the recording device in a ‘head’ with each microphone set within location of ears. Sound therefore arrives and is impeded in similar ways. At least that’s how I’ve come to understand it. A quick search shows the screenshot below. They’re very expensive. I’ve been wanting to try something like this since the N93 days when I heard some impressive binaural audio online.

Here’s  binaural audio sample recorded in a street. If you close your eyes, you can clearly hear and feel the traffic around.
