The Microsoft Garage Team is bringing some more improvements to their “Next” lockscreen for Android.

I’ve really missed pressing the volume button to see music controls or having a look at the lock screen to see my music controls (the touchwiz lock has this but the Next lock covers it up).

Now, I’ve got that functionality again. Yay! It works with the main music player and spotify (the only two I’ve used since updating). I think the controls/notifications should appear instantly (there’s a bit of a hiccup – I’ve noticed this with other lockscreen apps – I’m not sure if that is part of the design)

There’s now support for more notification support too, including Skype, Line and Google Hangouts. Whatsapp was there from previous updates (though it groups multiple messages)

WHAT’S NEW
* Music Player Controls. Now control music on Android OS versions 4.3 and above.
* Multimedia Messaging (MMS) Support. Multimedia messaging notifications will now appear on your lock screen.
* More Instant Messaging Support. Receive instant messaging notifications for Skype, Line, and Google Hangouts (for Android OS version 4.3 and higher).
* Quick Toggle Mobile Data. Turn on or off mobile data with a single tap.
* Improved performance, memory usage and number of bug fixes.
