Video: Nokia N97 Comeback
When I watched this yesterday, I didn’t really know what to think (apart from, “ooh, that’s CJ!”). I had just been mulling about certain “disappointing” features of the N97 which if improved could have made it more than a serious competition for the multimedia handsets of 2009.

Watching it again, I remembered that the general public aren’t at a level of tech-savviness where they know the whole history of phones and what they should really be expecting from a new mobile phone.
The N97Â brings so much “wow” with the slide out keyboard, the social media focus (“facebook phone”), 32GB memory and 5MP – driving those features home to confused consumers with aggressive marketing campaigns is exactly what Nokia needs.
They need more Apple style adverts of pointing out the mundanely obvious (at least to tech enthusiasts) and celebrating it as something new to behold, blinding the consumer that several phones have this too, and have had it for the past few years already (like their facebook integration video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQs9lolKtgw)
Subliminally, with the lyrics of the song (Mama Said Knock You Out, LL Cool J), they sort of cleverly did that.
Don’t call it a comeback
I been here for years
Rockin my peers and puttin suckas in fear
Makin the tears rain down like a MON-soon
Listen to the bass go BOOM
Explosion, overpowerin
Over the competition, I’m towerin
Wreckin shop, when I drop these lyrics that’ll make you call the cops
Don’t you dare stare, you betta move
Don’t ever compare
Me to the rest that’ll all get sliced and diced
Competition’s payin the priceI’m gonna knock you out (HUUUH!!!)
Mama said knock you out (HUUUH!!!)
Message:
Nokia N97 is gonna Knock out the competition!
I like it. 🙂 Please continue drumming down phrases like this, Nokia advertising 😀
I also like “I’ve been here for years” – it’s like, yeah the N97 has features that have been there for years and is dated *cough * camera – but then again pointing out that Nokia have consistently been producing handsets with these great features before, it’s not a comeback that they’re introducing such features, it’s just that general public were blinded by marketing of other phones.
