Opening the “SW update” app on your Nokia N97…v…you’ll notice the following for update:

  • Maps 3.1
  • C: Phone memory update
  • N-Gage Application 1.30
  • Nokia Messaging 10.0
  • Ovi Contacts 1.20

In the middle of installing the updates myself. I tried to install N-Gage but couldn’t at first as I had insufficient memory (About 8MB)   “Not enough memory for update. Delete some data and try again”. I had no data to delete in the first place! The phone memory is so miniscule, and is eaten away very quickly after each new application. Fortunately though, after installing the “Phone memory update”, I got about 19MB free, so that I could install the N-Gage client. But what am I going to do when I’m back down to single figures (which may even be on the same night as there’s lots of N-Gage games to install :D)

Currently installing N-gage. I’ll update as I go along. Quick! Go update now 😀

N-Gage:

After install, the N-Gage client is found in the games folder.

List of some popular games - extended catalogue is available for download

I downloaded a couple of games via 3G – first is the Bloom Blox game and the second is Bowling Pinbusters.

  • Niether are touch games – touch only works for functions like pausing/exiting the game.
  • Touch and non  touch aspects of the game and the client itself are slightly confusing. (Scrolling in the store is extremely annoying )
  • Works in landscape only.
  • Doesn’t come up as a widget for the homescreen.
  • Only 4:3 -  masses of blank spaces either side. Those blank spaces are buttons, but annoyingly aren’t labelled.
  • has already crashed needing battery removal
  • I’ve installed Worms World Party  – I absolutely love this game.
  • Games are free to try – you can purchase full versions, prices of which vary. e.g. Bowling is a reasonable £4 but Worms World Party is £8
  • Liking the bar on the right side of previously played games.

( Couldn’t really see the screen when I was attempting to play this whilst recording – hence the awkward crappy skills :p)

Ovi Maps 3.1

Not exactly sure what the update is – no major changes seem glaringly obvious to me, compared to the changes moving to 3.0. If there are things to notice and I’ve missed it, it’s because I’m too preoccupied with the fact that we’ve finally got N-Gage for the N97! 😀

It tells me that I have to redownload the maps but the maps for 3.0 seem to work on it fine.

Nokia Messaging 10.0

Installed fine – but having major problems with syncing email since yesterday morning. Says “Unable to connect to server. Try again later” when trying to set up email.
