Video: Steve the smartphone n00b and the Nokia Lumia 800: Day 0 – unboxing

The smartphone market is still growing, with significant growth still coming from mobile phone users moving up to adopt smartphones.

This guy is Steve. He’s a student who’s using what techy folks would call a ‘dumbphone’ – just a generic, no nonsense mobile phone. I thought it would be interesting to follow someone from a mobile phone to a smartphone, and in this instance, the Nokia Lumia 800.

We’ll get back to him another time whilst he gets a chance to actually play with the Lumia, for now, he does the usual geek thing of unboxing. I was going to have different angles and different cameras but they died on me. This is recorded by my Nokia.

I’ve not told Steve how to use the phone. I’ve just let him find things out on his own. Just as a sneak peak into tomorrow, it’s been quite positive so far. All initial set up was a breeze. I was particularly surprised how well he got contact transfer to work (he pointed out the contacts transfer app himself). I did not expect it to work on his LG. But it did. All his contacts are there now plus additional ones from Live and facebook. He’s really liking the speed, saying that there’s just “no wait” anywhere.

Anyway, here’s Steve’s unboxing. We’ve already unboxed the Lumia 800 in a separate video – that’s a little bit more your usual standard affair.

If you have any questions to ask on Steve’s findings of certain things on the Lumia, feel free to comment that below. We’ll ask him and update you guys on that. Hopefully if it is a certain feature he’ll have gotten around to using it.

You’ll note an accessory that Steve is using – he picked this up at Carphone Warehouse. Apparently, Orange was sold out.
