Walt Mossberg: Nokia Lumia 710 – “good value for the money”
Walt Mossberg, fan of Apple products and the like posted on All  Things  Digital that he thinks the Lumia 710 is good value for money. That’s great news as that’s precisely the aim of that particular phone and it’s good that someone as influential as Walt and AllThingsD would agree (and something to take on older models of once high end phones that have gone cheap with age). He notes that whilst it’s not expensive, it doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy.  You aren’t being cheated on build quality.

He says the phone generally felt snappy but lagged in a couple of instances (I’d be interested to know what that is as that’s one thing I’ve never put together – Lumia and ‘lag’). Walt explains that he was able to use all the Mango features and the UI of bright tiles with live data distinguishes itself from competitors. Camera, as expected is apparently no better than adequate with most pictures being acceptable.
Sound quality was good, no dropped calls, with battery life making it through a day in mixed light/moderate use (BTW how are you guys on the new update for lumia 800? I didn’t have a battery problem with mine, but have noticed my battery life is longer now).
The Nokia Lumia 710 does make an interesting entry for Nokia in the US market. It is a different take on how folks will first take notice of Nokia. First, welcoming, unassuming, not too daunting in price but delivering quite a lot (as opposed to what we initially hoped – something of a shock and awe).
As Walt notes, there’s the option of bigger and sleeker should you want to pay more for the 900 (and not that much more, given that was rumoured for 99USD – though contract plans still not certain).
