Nok Conv: Software update battery boost for Nokia Lumia 800, WiFi tethering confirmed ‘on its way’.

I thought I received my battery update later than most, but Nokia Conversations is only posting now about the battery boost update.

I’ve had the update for over a week now and can confirm battery life has significantly improved. Receiving several hundreds of emails instantly (vs 30m or manual) playing games, taking pics, texting, calling, drive, web browsing for much longer than before. I was already pretty lucky that my Lumia wasn’t among those that had the pretty bad battery life (some reported great battery life, but most concerning is that some others reported pretty poor battery life).

I think the problem with the Lumia 800 for some was it was eating more power than it should have, even when idle. Poor standby time resulting in poor over all usage time.

Ideally all Lumias should have been fine and not in need of a battery update in the first place. This was Nokia’s first WP and to an extent, it can be seen as consequences of the rush to get a phone out as fast as possible (take also the missing wifi tethering that will come later in an update).

This isn’t just a battery update.

• Improvement to bass (I don’t really use my Lumia for music – all music I want/have is on spotify and I don’t want to pay an extra £5/month to have it on my phone :S)
• Soft keys illuminate at all brightness levels (I have another lumia that does not have this update and it has no issue with the brightness levels.)

Oh there’s some news to WiFi tethering, confirmed as coming soon.

I know some of you are keen to know when features like WiFi tethering will be available.  We can’t confirm at this stage exactly when it will be delivered, but rest assured it is on its way.
