Nokia All In One Torch!

(Camera cap is covering led slightly, plus this N93 is dimmer than my other one - but you get the jist)

Most N93 users will tell you that the one-touch-torch button is extremely useful for tasks beyond the simple video light/flash it was intended for. My N93 is my torch, albeit, not comparable to dedicated versions, but super handy since it’s always there with me73 (I have no idea where my Maglite and the battery is most likely dead)

There were applications previously available to S60 that allowed the flash to be used as a torch. I remember installing Ntorch for my N73, but that was convincingly feeble in that it didn’t use the relatively more powerful flash of the N73 (than the N93) but the subdued, frankly, not so useful video light level.

The “Nokia All in One Torch” is a new application for your S60 device (with flash) that may change all that.

I haven’t tried this out yet, but the features blurb from series-sixty blog sounds very appealing.

  • - An Actual First-of-its-kind Strobe Light
  • - High Intensity LED Illumination
  • - Current Status Notification (via pop-up interface)
  • - Instantaneous Launch
  • - One-Tap Exit (via right softkey)
  • - Compatibility with MOST S60 3rd Edition Devices (N73, N80, N95 and more)

Since I’m reading several blog warnings about the possibility of wearing out the LED, I’m assuming this application utilises full brightness of the flash, or at least close to that. If the LED isn’t so bright, i.e. N93 vs N95, then that’s the max brightness you should expect.

Freebie: Nokia Threaded SMS/MMS Application!

September 23, 2007 at 12:22 pm | In 3rd edition, Freeware, Nokia, S60 | 5 Comments

Nokia’s just released a brand new free (beta) application called Nokia Conversation!

Basically it puts all  messages (SMS/MMS) of one contact into one easy manageable folder, including both received and sent messages.

You may have heard it called threaded SMS; not what I imagined threaded to be (like Gmail thread or vBulletin threads) but:

  • it’s a God-send for someone like me who likes keeping all these text messages into separate contact folers. Now, I don’t need to as this application does it for me.
  • Not only that, since my text messages sent are also kept, I can keep a track on what I was talking about to that person. A bit life life blog but much better as it’s for text messages.
  • I also appreciate how messages both in my phone memory inbox/drafts and SD card are included. I hate that when I need to use the mass storage, I have to switch to phone memory. Silly me, I forget to switch it back and I can’t find an easy way to move messages put on the phone memory back into the memory card. Anyone know how?

I haven’t used it long (just installed) to find (m)any bugs, but my initial gripes are:

  •   I still can’t use the keypad to quick search through each conversation folders like the contacts App.
  •  Messages already in folders  do not get included in conversations. But you can move those messages back into inbox.
  • Fonts should have an option to be smaller. What’s the point having only 3 messages intros readable at a time?
  • Messags get mixed up. I have phone bill itinerary’s under friend’s names

Overall, this is a very useful application. I’d like to see it integrated into S60’s messaging app as the intented purpose and potential of this app is huge.

Click here to get installation files.

There are two parts, install both to the PHONE MEMORY. Please choose the appropriate pair as one is made for FP1 devices.
