Nokia N8 and Nokia E7 versus Samsung Galaxy S. E7 CBD AMOLED vs G-S Super Amoled.
The case of the Nokia N8 teaches us to be weary of extremely early, leaked ranting “reviews” of prototype, unannounced phones. Remember the lack of info o the powerful broadcom GPU? Which we now know is class leading? The putting down of the supposedly standard, nothing special camera? Which we know now to be the best ever on a mobile phone? And what about the screen?
“Nokia N8 with other smartphones that are being prepared for release, and I must say, this is ridiculous. For example, I see that the N8 is very cheap OLED display. In fact, Nokia calls it the AMOLED display, but if you compare the display with the Samsung HD i890 (1,5 years already on the market), Nexus One of Google and other phones, it is not so good. The display is not as great as Super AMOLED in Samsung…”
Samsung’s rare Super AMOLED is touted as the best in terms of screen technology. At least in certain circles. Bright, vibrant colour reproduction with superior sunlight visibility (a feature taken for granted in touch displays, particularly AMOLED and certain LCD). We have shown you that the E7′s performs great outside (regarless of unusual test parameters, I COULD SEE THE SCREEN IN SUNLIGHT)
Looking at a Super AMOLED display (Galaxy S) versus the Nokia E7, you can see a clear difference between Nokia’s own. More vibrant or over saturation? Whilst the E7 and C6-01 seem to produce colours more closer to each other, the N8 and C7 seem to still have an image that pops out slightly more than the Galaxy S. This may be due to white balance issues – who knows. Having seen the screens on these phones, one thing is true – they are FAR from the cheap OLED displays Eldar had described.
Renowned non-nokia enthusiats over at engadget have mentioned that the E7′s display is brighter and more vibrant than their beloved magical Retina Display with the E7′s clear black looking “SIMPLY Gorgeous, black levels are no joke. Samsung’s stranglehold on badass mobile displays was pretty short lived”.
Whether the N8 also has CBD is uncertain but some current N8 owners have described N8′s outdoor visibility to be better than Super AMOLED. Screen technology aside, you know it’s not just some cheap OLED display.
The only issue these screens lag behind in one aspect could be screen resolution. 640×360 vs 800×480 (e.g. N900, Galaxy S). On the upside, lower screen resolution benefits improved battery life. For sure, N9 will have 800×480 with CBD AMOLED, and awesome keyboard and 4″ screen at least all worked out.

- AMOLED: Nokia contro Samsung | September 25, 2010

The E7 really looks like a bigger n8 front on….. i’m confused as to which one is better
damn… the e7 screen is much better than the n8…. what a freaking shame….
maybe they’ll come out with the N8i with a CBD
(couldn’t wait that long though)
Actually this CBD technology is not a big surprise to me. Some Nokia haters laugh at Nokia being a rubber product maker. Actually, Nokia used to make TV sets, computers as well as display. In 2009, Nokia even still had a business unit of display. Surely Nokia has the expertise of display technology. I sincerely wish Nokia to return the king of innovation in the future.
I personally think that E7′s display is horribly oversaturated… Samsung looks way better
Believe me, E7 screen is gorgeous, I have witnessed it with my own eyes on Nokia World, in comaprison, I understand that the big + of the CBD technology, is that it has very natural black and white colors, without any “additional glowing”
Maybe it is gorgeous, but the colours are very inaccurate…
Is CBD Technology just the AMOLED Plus by Samsung so far? http://symbianbriefs.blogspot.com/2010/09/is-cbd-technology-just-amoled-plus-by.html
this pictures is FAKE!
SAMOLED is MUCH brightner than AMOLED!
I have AMOLED and SAMOLED phones i know what is REAL!!!
N-lies= nokia N8 & E7 is not only AMOLED, NOKIA has add on CBD(CLEAR BLACK DISPLAY) with the screen… so, it is the big comparison those of the screen… is fact! believe it. DUDE~~!
I don’t think so.
You can see comparison of iPhone 4 vs. Galaxy S here http://www.engadget.com/photos/iphone-4-vs-samsung-galaxy-s-displays-at-full-brightness/#3119715
And you can see comparison of iPhone 4 vs. Nokia E7 here http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-cbd-vs-apple-retina-fight/#3359122
So you will see the brightness as follow
Nokia E7 > iPhone 4 > Galaxy S
This picture isn’t accurate. As a Nokia fan for over 10 years, and a current Samsung Galaxy S owner, I can assure you that the samsung wasn’t set to full brightness. I tried a prototype N8 and it didn’t even come close to fully brightness on my Galaxy S.
I think your jumping ahead of yourself, the yare talking about CBD and H8 does not have it so if you have seen an N8 you have not seen the CBD they are talking about, it is on the E7, C6 and the othe r phone released by Nokia at the Nokia world
Nope, I said it the way it is. Check out the picture above. You can see that the N8s screen looks brighter than that on the SGS, which is what I meant by my comment. No CBD is out yet so I cant compare it to my SGS.
I think reason is N8 was still progressing. So recent N8 would be different than what you have.
Here is proof.
You can see comparison of iPhone 4 vs. Galaxy S here http://www.engadget.com/photos/iphone-4-vs-samsung-galaxy-s-displays-at-full-brightness/#3119715

So you will see the brightness as follow
Nokia E7 > iPhone 4 > Galaxy S
damn,
E7 CBD AMOLED IS JUST AWESOME
samsung screen compared is totally crap!!!!!!!!!!!!
Galaxy s screen is really bright, but this pic shows galaxy s on lowest level hence e7 looks bright,
But I would agree nokia have learnt there lesion
No. They are all set to maximum brightness.
damn you nokia! you make the best phones around but dont know how to make make the hype around them!
did u see what a big fuss stive jobs made over his 5MP camera? or VIDEO CALLING?!
and here comes nokia, 12MP XENON flash camera, endless list of features! and the best screens out there… and still no fuss in the american blogs!
+1

+10!
one word
MARKETING
No matter what marketing Nokia does, they just won’t get the love Apple gets from the media in the USA. You can see the tech blogs (Engadget the most) are just sucking Steve Jobs cock. Whatever Apple does is awesome. Whatever Nokia does is lame. Apple could sell fake phones made of used toilet paper for 1000 euros and they would still be praised as revolutionary and stylish in Engadget.
Well we Finnish people are humble. And we don’t really flatter around. We just trust that people are wise enough to see the truth rather than only the surface. I’m talking about mentality of Finnish people. From social life to business.
Well maybe Ellop + Skillman gives some sugarcoating for Nokia. I think that’s all it takes to take the next level on a way to regain the smartphone leadership around the globe(not that they don’t have it already). Maybe N8 + upcoming N9 painted with USA flag and reviews in USA would be awesome and Americans on their knees
Or maybe American’s just don’t like Nokia way to sell phones unlocked. No AT&T marketing and so on… Personally I like Nokia’s stubborn way to offer phones unlocked everywhere. And in Finland all my Finnish friends got N8 without operator. And UK friends living here in Finland got theirs with 24month contracts. Well I hope Nokia will go halfway there and offer both to Americans to get things going.. I still have no idea about carrier in US. Are they gonna do it or not??

Do you have N8 or E7? If not, your comment is worth nothing.
Eldar is a liar as I have said before. Everybody should just ignore him. Totally. No need to give his website any visits. You cannot trust anything that comes out of that propaganda outlet. Let it just die.
this pictures are fake!!! The Galaxy S screen is better than the one on the N8, wich makes this pictures fake!!!
the pictures are real, get over yourself , and stop moaning
Take a look at that video of Samsung Galaxy S http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5D03ZLwuNc&feature=related
and compare it with the video of N8 at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teyz3vVN9d4 which was filmed by me in door at night time.
Would you still think the pictures are fake?
hahaha the avatar you got totally matches your whining
these pics prove nokia are headed the right way!come on release the devices, i couldnt wait so i got myself galaxy s, and if nokia dnt release now they will lose more customers!
also, these pics (esp E7 vs Iphone4) show resolution of screens is insignificant!look at how much content difference there is between E7 and ip4? hardly any!
you’re correct if you have 20/20 vision you would need to have the phone 5″ from your face (according to THX’s calculator) to notice the Retina resolution (10″ by other calculators)
if you had 20/10 than you can have it much further away and notice the resolution
but to notice the difference between the two is still difficult
fake pics ppl………i have seen both samsung galaxy s and nokia n8….galaxy s screen super amoled is far far better dan nokia…
As an N8′s owner, after having watching plenty of SGS video, I have to say unfortunately you are lying or denying or your IQ doesn’t allow you to make a proper judgement.
Unless you’ve seen both of them side to side, you are in no position to make any judgements. The nature of the internet is such that anybody can post anything. In any event, photos often have difficulty capturing true display capability – that I know from working with monitors.
I seriously doubt that AMOLED does well in sunlight for either – reading text and sunlight are AMOLEDs weaknesses.
Real world performance is probably more like this:
http://www.thenokian8.info/nokia-n8-vs-samsung-amoled-galaxy-super.html
I’d have to say that the Galaxy S has beat the Nokia N8, and that’s after seeing both phones.
Well I have seen them. I performed tests on the AMOLED screens. And E7 AMOLED is CBD. C7 AMOLED has light polarizing filter – both those assist in visibility outdoors in sunlight.
Plus users of both S.AMOLED screens (galaxy s) have said their N8 is on PAR if not better for outdoor visibility.
I didn’t say that the Galaxy S was better for outdoors … neither will do well outdoors compared to traditional LCD screens. I said that AMOLED in general isn’t great outdoors. The N8 is no exception. The question is who said those things you refer to (fanboys cannot counted as objective on either side – you can always tell because Nokia fanboys focus too much on the camera). In bright sunlight and for text, the iPhone is for now, the top.
I wouldn’t be surprised to discover if the N8′s Amoled screen was actually made by Samsung. However, overall I do think that the Samsung screen is still better. When I tested, at max brightness, the galaxy S did win. Plus the Galaxy S has the better resolution. The main drawback of the galaxy s is the slight oversaturation, but the colours appear to be richer overall, so that is forgivable.
I’d have to say that between the two:
Nokia N8:
- Camera is way better
- Pentaband (good for roaming)
Galaxy S
- Screen is better
- Processor is way better (CPU for sure, I suspect that there is also a large gap in GPU)
- Mobile hotspot
But the deal breaker for me is Symbian^3, which although better than the ageing Symbian, isn’t up to par with Android and by a long shot. Not to mention I think that overall, Google services are better than those in the Ovi suite as is the Android browser (Opera being the best one for Symbian I’ve seen). As it stands, the Ovi store really needs more work as well. The final gripe is that the UI on Symbian is much less efficient. Basic tasks seem to take longer to do overall, which ruins the experience. I do have experience with both OSes by the way.
The other gripe is that after the N97 … well, I’ve lost faith in them. This phone doesn’t seem to have the issues with too little memory, but I’d like to see. In particular, 256 mb of SDRAM is not sufficient for a high end phone. I’d like to see how well this thing multitasks and if there isn’t a problem like on the N97, where the 128 mb was far from sufficient. A new OS usually means that the RAM demands go up and apps may prove more demanding as well.
This pic is bullshit ,a fake made by nokia lovers.I have a Galaxy s and that is not how it really looks. My personal oppinin is the top mobile producers are now Samsung,Sony Ericsson, ipone and after thoose Nokia
sorry but this is the truth
its fake i have those wallpaper coming from N8 i tested it on my super Amoled phone (SGS)
obviously its fake, to see is the truth
Nokia are so annoying. Why do they insist on keeping business and multimedia phones as seperate devices with the E and N range ?!?!. I live in London – 8 million business people take the tube every day and most business people want a phone which is also a multimedia phone to use on the underground. Do they not understand this?!? Are they saying because I want email connectivity and a slide out keyboard, I don’t also want a decent camera, an FM transmitter for music in the car, a microsd slot?!? wtf? Really drives me mad as I know I’m not the only business user who wants the full multimedia experience also. Charge me more – I don’t care! Personally I’m in a position that I need to do some learning outside work and recording mp4 lectures onto a microsd card which I could swap with my music collection would be perfect for me because despite what they think, there is not enough storage internally unless you want to remove stuff (and I so hate having to connect to a PC and leave transfers running overnight for this so would rather have multiple cards and swap!). Apple forces you through crppy iTunes for everything so in my mind Nokia had a lead here – yet removed for e7 ?!? And sorry – love the ida of USB-OTG but I’m not sitting on the tube (if I get a seat) with a lead hanging out my phone for this… They could have made the only difference here between e7 and N8 be a keyboard or not. Let people choose that form factor. Now neither has the full feature set for me!
It is no wonder iPhones and android are taking over – Nokia splits their phone features amog devices and iPhone does it all!! I speak as a Nokia fan who is frustrated by each phone they release which seems in some way crippled.
And why oh why did they scrap the N900 ? brilliant phone – still better hardware than anything else they’ve done and better (linux) os and full firefox browser – but release and immediately scrap it (!?!) saying you’re not supporting the os anymore to partner with intel (who can’t make energy efficient mobile chips) and start again with an OS thats vapourware?!? I want the N901 which would have had ARM chip, OMLED capacitive and E7 shaped keyboard on Maemo 6 but they’ve scrapped that and gone back 2 years!!! Idiots!! They had the lead and binned it!
I hate apple – I want a nokia but I’m still waiting for the full on complete replacement for my N95 and they keep dropping the ball…. PLEASE sort it out guys!! I can’t keep supporting you anymore…
THE SAME FEELING WITH YOU MARK THE NOKIA COMPANY SHOULD BE SERIOUSLY TAKE NOTE OF YOUR BRILLIANT IDEA IF THEY WILL IGNORED IT A LOT OF NOKIA FOLLOWERS WILL START TO LOOK A BETTER PHONE IN OTHER BRAND IN WHICH AS YOU SAID COMBINATION OF N SERIES AND E SERIES THAT’S WHAT IM STARTING TO THINK NOW….
these pics are frack. ..dont belive it…i have galaxy s..it better then nokia n8, c7 and all nokia phones but i think nolia e7 have a great display…
Oh My God! I feel so annoyed right now! Could you please increase the BRIGHTNESS OF THE GALAXY S!?!?!? It is much brighter, and better than the N8 and E7, and this is so not a fair comparison with the Samsung’s brightness reduced to the lowest, just to make it look bad….
Thanks for the auspicious writeup. It in truth was once a leisure account it. Glance complicated to far added agreeable from you! By the way, how could we communicate?
