Guessing the Nokia E6-00 design

| January 16, 2011 | Comments (21)

Reader, aikon171's assumptions of E6-00. Cross between the E5 and the "My Dream Nokia" concept E5x

So, quite a lot of you are really excited about the Nokia E6-00.In the comments many have mentioned you want a QWERTY keyboard and perhaps a touch screen but don’t want to have something quite as big as the E7, or something with moving parts like the E7/want an always ready QWERTY. We are all different people and it’s nice we can have the choice of a form factor we like, instead of just one shoved in our faces.

Yesterday, we thought the E6-00 finally leaked in device photo, but it turns out to be a fake. At least NOT the E6-00 if it is anything. The mentioned “2 softkeys” from XML file were missing, plus there were concerns that the keyboard was too close to the screen – no border. What we did get are some confirmation by way of design.

The E7 a form factor from E7X (as I said) but the screen might be a little big, which I am not so sure about. The width is definitely longer than the height.”

Does that mean it’s like a landscape phone or just longer width wise than what we’ve seen? Alex68 has noted before that English is not his first language and can make typos/errors, especially when he’s too tired. I think it adds to the excitement that little bit of language confusion :p

When crac16 mentioned:

Seems it’s going back to the E61 style if I understand Alex68.

Alex68 replied

I quickly checked how E61 looks like

Yeah, this time you are right …

So, HOW wide exactly is the E61? 70mm!

Height  x width x Depth (instead of LWH)

  • E5: 115 x 58.9 x 12.8 mm
  • C3: 115.5 x 58.1 x 13.6 mm
  • E72: 114 x 58 x 10 mm
  • E71: 114 x 57 x 10 mm
  • E61: 117 x 70 x 14 mm
  • E63: 113 x 59 x 13 mm
  • E55: 116.5 x 49 x 9.9 mm
  • iPhone 4: 115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3mm
  • BlackBerry Bold: 109 x 60 x 14 mm
  • Evo 4G: 122 x 66 x 13 mm

Here’s the E71 vs E61 (image by kitaguni) Well the E6-00 would probably not be so tall or so thick, or even that wide. Just wider than the fake E6-00 we saw yesterday which kinda looks more like a shopped E71.

The “E5x” was no “concept”, it is not a Nokia design but some Photoshop study by someone not even very skilled to do a fake. And yet some ever refer here it as a “concept”.

  2. Vulcan says:

And it will not look like that either…

  3. ICEman says:

E6-00 will not be like E61 in size, screen is confirmed to be VGA with 326DPI. That gives us 2.46″ – exactly like E71/72/Quest

  4. Rags says:

I don’t think it will be much different from the E72′s display. Because the ratio between 320 x 240 and 640 x 480 is the same.

But the hint seems to be right, it’s 640 x 480 rather than 480 x 640 on the E6′s XML specs page. The N8 is 360 x 640, and it’s longer vertically. So having 480 px on the height section means it’s gonna be the same as E71/E72.

As for the soft keys, I don’t think the argument is accurate. The N8′s XML sheet says the same thing, which refers to the 2 on-screen keys as we know. For all we know, it could be the same thing here.

i also thought that ‘soft keys’ meant software keys which may or may not have corresponding hardware buttons. The two keys at the bottom of the screen in symbian touch devices(like in N8, without hardware keys corresponding to the ‘soft keys’) are also called soft keys. The ‘soft keys’ requirement shouldn’t dictate any design guesses.

Sorry for my vague language and typos earlier regarding E72. I’d like to rephrase my comment on E6. It is closer to E72. However, the screen may be visually a bit bigger than E72, as I am not sure about the actual physical size.

  6. 352x416 says:

I would be guessing that the screen is the same one as in the Quest with touch added as Nokia seem to like to reuse components as much as possible. Which is smart. It saves R & D and gives economies of scale and cuts down on productisation costs. Besides Eldar said it is the same one.

I hope it has HDMI out.

  7. 352x416 says:

    Just some more thoughts.

Will the screen be AMOLED? Is the Quest AMOLED?

Has any AMOLED been done at this pixel density before?

  8. Punjab says:

The first Nokia with the home button on the right side of the phone.
There are also soft buttons to have the largest screen available.
Symbian 3, 3inch touch screen without CBD, 640×480, qwerty keyboard almost the same as E72, 1500 mA battery, 250 MB RAM, 512 MB memory, 8 MP fullfocus camera, 780p video recording. Also first NFC enabled Nokia.

  9. Doug says:

Would love to see this be just as wide as the E61. That keyboard was perfectly sized.

  10. Doug says:

I hope it has better specs than Blackberry Dakota! Especially the processor, screen and battery life!

  11. kenosando says:

    Don’t forget about the E55, a 20-key QWERTY with a screen taller than wider. Here is a mock-up I drew up with a E72 keyboard and E55 body. http://twitpic.com/3r9b1p

  12. [...] Sunday we tried to guess the possible appearance of the E6-00 based on some info gained from Alex68 of a landscape screen which we did think was more E61 than [...]

  13. Unbuilt says:

It’s simillar to the E72…just add the touchscreen and it’s done…you’ll see

  14. [...] It may have been the angle or the colour scheme, but this one in a darker more mysterious tone kinda looks more appealing to me. I would have thought they would have made it wider than it is taller. Prhaps something like aikon171 had envisioned? [...]
