You may have seen some news that Nokia has come to where the action is at Silicon Valley, showing Nokia is taking serious steps at winning back the US crowd.

According to these reports, Sunnyvale (one of the major cities that make up Silicon Valley, including more well known Palo Alto and Cupertino) is welcoming Nokia’s move wholeheartedly. It appears that the city needs Nokia (to revitalize their town) as much as Nokia kinda needs to be in this city (to have a solid base on US soil).

Instead of creating a standalone enclosed campus, Nokia have renovated from bare skeleton a new corporate HQ. I’d say that fits Nokia’s green credentials. Nokia’s new building is close to amenities and the hundreds of new Nokia staff (and possibly their family) will revitalize the city with new business.

I hope they’ve got some cool things going on there like the google offices. Work hard, play hard. Encourage creativity and fun, not just corporate, corporate, corporate (though of course not going overboard and turning it into a playschool).

Cheers to Rant for the tip!

Andre’s addition.

Job postings at the following Nokia site indicates 3 new job openings for MeeGo related software engineers at Nokia’s Mountain view campus. Note that Mountain View (where Google is based) and Sunnyvale are all of 5km apart :). Signs that Nokia’s MeeGo development may be moved to Silicon Valley? Maybe
