No Symbian/Nokia event for April 12. There’ll still be announcements. And Lunch+chat with WOMWorld in London.

In two days time (April 12), we were expecting an event to be taking place with regards to Symbian in London.

Mobile-Cowboys suggested this event was about the announcement of the Summer Update.

WOMWorldNokia have been inviting some people for “Lunch and a chat” at their London Office for the 12th April. Related?

Moconews reports that there is no event (Cheers Damen for the tip). They got in touch with a Nokia spokesperson who said:

The announcements next week are all online activities. The interest has been generated by a teaser campaign and the fact that here in the UK we have arranged to meet a few of our analysts on Tuesday. The wider media have combined these items to ‘create’ a nonexistent London Launch.

There will still be announcements but not in the form of webcasts.

Damen adds that a Nokia spokesperson may have left a comment on engadget about this matter. Could be anyone. We also get comments here claiming to be people @Nokia though it’s difficult to be sure.

Hi all,

For clarification, on April 12th, Nokia will share some updates and news regarding the latest developments in our Symbian smartphones. There is no physical event, but please visit nokia.com/press at 10:00 CET for all the news. In the meantime, many are asking if this is in contradiction to what we have previously stated on Symbian and it is not. We have stated we will deliver updates to the Symbian experience and that we will launch more Symbian products around the world in line with our plans to sell 150 million more devices globally. Hope that helps clarify…

However, this time around, Engadget directly adds to their post that Nokia have been in contact.

Nokia contacted us to clarify that the “event” is actually a “media briefing.” Hint: that’s journalistic code meant to temper any enthusiasm you might still feel for the platform.

When asked about new device announcements, Laurie (@LaurieatNokia) replied:

Sorry, we aren’t pre-releasing what we’ll be announcing on April 12th but please follow along
