Over 13 Million Downloads for Opera on Ovi Store alone

Opera Mobile and Opera Mini are two fantastic apps that Symbian and S40 owners MUST own if you care about browsing the web*. It’s intrinsically a great browser, albeit lacking flash, but it’s also a fantastic alternative to the browser default on all Nokia’s except the remarkable MicroB on the N900.

I don’t know how many downloads there have been for Nokias in total, but just through Ovi Store they have in excess of 13 Million downloads!

Today, Opera’s mobile web browser apps, including Opera Mini 4.2 and Opera Mobile 10, have been collectively downloaded over 13 million times in Ovi Store from more than 190 markets.

“We are the maker of the most widely used cellphone browser,” said Dag Olav Norem, VP Product Management, Opera Software. “We are a huge supporter of initiatives that lower the barriers so all people can access the Internet. With Nokia as the largest handset maker in the world, and Ovi Store’s open distribution, we are able to reach a wide, global audience.”

Cheers Adnan for the tip!

*Unfortunately we can’t be expecting that new users download alternative browsers. Things should just work out of the box, hence click the web button and get a decent browser.
